I get this. BUT I don't get why PP turned down NCS for Madeira. (If it's even true.)

Have you visited NCS or spoken to HONEST parents with girls currently at that school? I have. and they all tell me to RUN to from NCS.

My DD applied to Holton and NCS only, got accepted to both, and chose Holton. I am sure she would have been happy at NCS too.

Same happened with my niece.

This could be true. Most school’s reputations run about 5-7 years behind. I believe that is the case with GDS. it’s not what it was a few years ago.

I don’t buy this. My DD is heading to NCS next year and we have a tons of friends with girls there (we are BVR family). Nobody has anything bad to say about the school at all. If it takes some of the best and brightest girls the average is quite high. When we toured they basically told us that all girls are above average and therefore are given above average assignments. I am sure the school has its flaws like all places do, but highly doubt parents/kids are running away from it. I actually heard of several BVR girls that were turned down from early admission so they are clearly not hurting for admission.

Ok, but they do have a relatively new HOS.

This post just proves why this thread is soooo pointless. Different schools are right for different girls. In no way should NCS be “dead last.” Serious students are challenged there and their college placement is excellent. These are things a lot of parents value, but not all. It’s okay if it’s too challenging of an environment for some students. There is a different school for them. Either you rank schools by tangible outcomes such as college placement and test scores or you can’t rank them at all. It’s just totally subjective.

It is true. And she has no interest in horses! It just felt more comfortable to her. We supported that decision and she has had no regrets.

These are silly comparisons. My girls went to a school normally disparaged here as being inferior. They thrived and met some of the nicest kids I could have hoped for. They had their eyes opened to a world beyond the bubble of our well-off community. Went on to good but not well known colleges. Thrived again. Amazing opportunities available through dedicated professors not grinding at monster universities. Stop playing the game and running the rat race. Pick what works for your kid and your family in the moment you live in.

You are living in a vacuum. It should be noted that there were Beauvoir girls who did not apply to NCS as well. Wishing your daughter the best at NCS. I hear the lower school is lovely hope the high school changes by the time your daughter gets there.

Thanks, but why are you saying that I am living in a vacuum? I know of girls that applied early decision and did not get in. Girls that are weak in academics are counseled not to apply. Some do anyway and don’t get in. And these are the girls from the deeded elementary school…

Not a vacuum, a bubble.
