This must be so tough. Hang in there! Hoping they get some good news. |

This is probably what PP means:
The concept of Public Ivy schools was introduced by Richard Moll, who coined the term in his 1985 book “The Public Ivy’s: A Guide to America’s Best Public Undergraduate Colleges and Universities”. |
NE and CW are on so many students' lists. People need to be more expansive in where they apply. I think kids should stop applying EA to schools that also have ED. Those schools are just trying to increase apps. If your kid doesn't want to ED to those schools, then apply RD. But also apply RD to some less popular school. There are so many colleges/universities in this country. Why is everyone focused on the same 50-70 schools? The fact that NE got almost 100,000 apps is just stupid. The schools gaming the system should be boycotted. Schools with rolling admissions, ED, and RD are what we should encourage our kids to focus on. |
Some of the “safeties” are actually targets. That is the unfortunate answer. You combat yield protection with demonstrated interest. Did you do an official tour at Case? Also, Northeastern only admitted 6% last year. That makes it an automatic reach for everyone. The categorization is not just based on stats. The admit rate plays a big role. Ignore the rankings - they are not related to reach vs safety. |
How could kid be deferred at 3 Ivies? They are all scea or ed. |
How do you get deferred from 3 Ivies? All Ivies are either ED or single choice early action, meaning you can only apply early to one Ivy, no? Do you mean you kid was waitlisted? |
Wow, can't believe editors missed typo in title: it's Ivies, not Ivy's |
I'm so sorry, that must be stressful. Can she update her apps with anything? Hoping for her! |
Weird tangential Q, what mcps magnet has room for 13APs? Or, did your kid self study on a few based on a similar magnetclass? I have kids at 2 different magnets, and I don’t see how this is possible with the magnet schedules. Which magnet is this? |
I saw that and chuckled 😀. |

I hope none of my kids apply to schools gaming the system such as Northeastern, who have no supplemental essays and are strident about test-optional. I don't want my family inflating their numbers.
And to answer another PP, who cautions against applying EA when schools have ED, my senior got into his two target/safeties in EA, when both schools also had ED. He customized his essays to each of them. |
A 1985 publication with an errant possessive in the title is hardly tge standard bearer for current terminology. And, the notion is ridiculous. Ivy League is a sports league of certain colleges. They need there own catch phrase! |
I am the poster above that asked this too. I'll bet you're right. |

There’s an entire wiki page devoted to Public Ivies |
