Anyone else getting lots of deferrals?

Seems like we are on a deferral run here and just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. The past 5 notifications have all been deferrals (including one from Ga Tech which we are grateful for bc it wasn't a denial) SO hard watching kid open the notification and... another deferral.. more waiting.. more letters... just want it over!

My kid had:
1 acceptance in state, good public
2 deferrals, one private, one ivy public
2 rejects, highly regarded public

The rejected schools are less "prestigious" than the deferred schools. Go figure.

Waiting for 4 more. I was so relieved at the in state. And this is a really high stat student.

DS applied to 6 US schools and 1 Canadian, and received one deferral from a reach so far, which will probably turn into a rejection. We're expecting another rejection from his second reach. He will go to one of his matches, and that will be fine.
At some point, you've got to be happy with what you have.

What is an “ivy public”? That is not a thing. Do you mean UMichigan/UNC/Cal or something similar?

Maybe they mean U Penn, which is not public but some mistakenly think so.

University of Pennsylvania (Penn or UPenn) is a private school, and is an Ivy league school

The public side of Cornell maybe?

DS has had a deferral from a Public University and another from a private University. I am assuming they will turn into rejections or waitlist. Also waiting on Canadian schools which can decide as late as May. This could be a long wait. He is in at a target which he would like to attend, but is more interested in a couple that he is waiting on.

1. Four acceptances, including to two top engineering schools. The two others were safeties
2. One deferral
3. One rejection
4. One odd deferral (it said no for freshman year but guaranteed admission sophomore year if maintain a B average in first year at another school). Had never heard of this before.

Yes, we have had the same experience.

Yes, 3 deferrals thus far but all highly selective schools so DC is actually feeling ok going into RD, just a bit impatient. Good luck to everyone!

I know someone who also had the scenario of #4. It was called a "guaranteed transfer"

3 acceptances
3 rejections
6 deferrals
Waiting on initial results for 3 EA/RD applications

Four acceptances at large public universities with a strange mix of merit and honors (received from more competitive schools but nothing from less competitive ones).
Two deferrals from competitive publics.
Waiting on one RD highly competitive private (assume it will be a rejection - last year had 6% acceptance rate).

This would annoy me. It must make business sense to the school, but it is really jerking around a young person trying to adjust to a new community.

My kid rejected a school that eventually took her off the wait list, because she had mentally warmed up to the school she accepted (by the acceptance deadline). Plus, she did not appreciate the way the Waitlist school had treated her (i.e., pressuring her to make a quick decision, with no opportunity to attend Admitted Students Day, for example)
