LGBTQ+ and Catholicism

The Pope has clarified his remarks and made clear that he does not consider gay sex to be any more of a sin than any other sexual act outside of marriage - also making clear that even then the act is “subject to consideration of the circumstances” which can “reduce or eliminate fault.” He never meant to suggest that there is something uniquely more “sinful” about gay sex than other sex.

Why are regular Joe Schmo Catholics attacked as bigots and homophobes, but not Biden and Pelosi not?

Because they understand and live Separation of church and state, they admit the church is wrong on some things.

The state doesn’t have good morals and values. Look at all the politicians who become rich off of their elected office, the politicians who are arrested and convicted of hurting people. The politicians who abuse their power for personal profit and gain and personal desire. How does the government have the standing to tell anyone they are wrong or bad? The state is wrong on alot of things too.

The official church doctrine remains that homosexual acts are sinful and “intrinsically disordered.” So the Pope can say what he wants but the doctrine remains.

I have all sorts of “natural desires” I’d like to act on but don’t because to do so would be immoral. I’d like to sport around on my spouse; I’d like to drink to excess; I’d like to punch people in the nose; I’d like to take nice things without paying for them. The ability to sublimate desire in favor of the will is what makes human beings more than barnyard animals.

If your religion told you that your heterosexual desires (even within marriage) were immoral and you had to be celibate your whole life, would you bow to that teaching? Could you live without sex?

The Catholic Church tells priests and nuns to do that.

Sigh.. NOT THE SAME. These people want to devote their lives to religion, most humans do not want to do this.

It tells unmarried people to do this; it tell married people to do this unless they are trying to conceive a child. And all people sin. And the Church understands this and forgives. We try, but will never be perfect.

Yes, but unless he's speaking ex cathedra, it doesn't matter. Please educate yourself.

Oh come on. 4 out of 5 priests in the vatican are gay. He is just telling you what you want to hear. He's gay himself.

I think the last guidance I heard on this was, to paraphrase "it's OK to love your gay friends/family. What you are against is the sexual deeds, not the doers".
