I find it baffling how many parents surely said “I would do anything for my kids” when they were young meant the whole time “until they turn 18/22 and then eff them.” In Europe no one expects their kids to be self-sufficient at 22. We now are more like Western Europe in terms of housing costs and so we also have their family dynamics. It’s fine.

My children are going to outlive me. As much as I want to take care of them for the rest of their lives, that's simply not feasible. What's going to happen to them if they haven't to take care of themselves when I no longer can?
