Maureen Dowd column on Landon

Landon graduates excel outside of school. I've heard some schools like GDS thrown around this forum a lot, and I'll say it flat out. Landon is a better school than GDS. Most of my sons' friends from Landon are a few years out of college and many of them are making over $100,000 a year or are attending top tier graduate programs. I find it ironic that many of their Sidwell and GDS counterparts are taking 5+ years to finish college, struggling to find jobs, or are wasting their lives as bartenders and waiters.

Landon is an institution that teaches kids how to excel. It's not an easy education and will never be perfectly understood from the outside.

After all, it is not the critic who counts, but the man actually in the arena. He lives a world apart from those weak and timid souls that know neither the thrill of victory nor defeat.

Is this an example of Landon values, defining "exceptional individuals" by how much they earn?

I'd be pretty embarrassed to wear my son's Landon Bears gear for a few days after that story.

These are NOT WOMEN they are pubescent girls, PLEASE! There is a big difference. Lets not use a work considered more PC for females over the age of 21 for middle schoolers or highschoolers!!!

To me, "brash and hormonal" is making an inappropriate comment or gesture. This is so, so much worse than that. These were multiple girls, whom these boys were planning to lure into a vulnerable situation where the girls would have no idea what was really going on, then play on their feelings to try to manipulate the girls into behavior they very likely would not have agreed to if they had known what the real circumstances were. It's awful, it's objectifying and it is brutally unfair to the young women involved. Maybe I'm a prude but I am genuinely stunned by this. This isn't a bad apple; this is a bad crop, to the extent that it quite honestly makes me doubt the entire orchard. For lack of a better phrase!

They are not young women they are 14 and 15 year old GIRLS!!! Please stop calling these children "women." They are girls!!

Aren't girls young women?

People are really crass to try to make a joke of yet another Landon scandal. This entitlement behaviour is atrocious.

I know that I will be flamed for this but last I checked I did not know any 5'2", 90 lb, 34D girls. Perhaps daddy bought them for her and if that is the case, those parents are asking for trouble

Ha! These girls are women until they are YOUR girls being targeted and victimized. Any excuse for this behavior is a defense for abuse....and a sick one at that.

By calling them "women" or even "young women" in this particular situation you are allowing traits associated with a full grown adult female into the conversation. This could easily lead some people to attach a greater level of maturity or intelligence or sexuality to these girls that others could skew into some type of complicity or responsibility. I bet you the parents of the girls who were objectified in the "fantasy league" 40+ year old lawyer with many years in the trenches of gender politics at the office.

AIMS should be notified.

Of course you're assuming that 14-15 y.o. boys can accurately guess a girl's weight and bra size and that in a fantasy league they're deeply committed to realism.... Funny how you went instantly to boob job and her parents are asking for it rather than either of these more obvious explanations. Any chance you're a Landon parent?

Sorry - my "insert" was off. What it is supposed to say is: I bet you the parents of the girls who were objectified in the "fantasy league" do not consider their daughters to be women in any way shape or form in this particular case. Hell, this story makes me feel *almost* like a scared little girl and I am a 40+ year old lawyer with many years in the trenches of gender politics at the office.

Don't blame the girls ... it is the boys at Landon who created this horrible, crazy scheme. They really need to start over at Landon.
