A criminal justice degree is a waste of 150k because you don't need need the degree to get a job as a police officer. Furthermore, college doesn't give you any of the skills it takes to do the job, so big waste of time/energy/money.

No this is absurd.

A criminology degree = law school, DOJ, CIA, FBI, CYBER SECURITY and many more.

Grades are more important here.

You don't have a clue. Criminal justice has absolutely nothing to do with cyber security. It might help you get a generic security job like an area security officer or background investigator at a fed agency, but that's about it. And very few employers actually care about your gpa. A CJ degree is better than no degree, but there are better options if you are going to drop 200k.

did you read the OP? It's on the list of most regretted majors.

I almost majored in journalism and another in the "most regretted" list. I am so glad I didn't.

I don't understand why we can't stick to our own experiences when someone asks and why people weigh in deeming certain majors are "fluff" when they clearly don't have a degree in them.

I will never regret my journalism degree. I wanted to become a hard news journalist and that degree opened the door. Yes, I work with people who don’t have a journalism degree but they often had connections I didn’t have or graduated from Ivy League schools, which I didn’t.

It’s a competitive career and success requires long hours and weekends. But if journalism is what you want to do, a degree opens that door.

Fwiw, I am middle-aged and will earn about $130k this year. It may not be much by DCUM standards, but it’s decent pay for a job I love.

A comms degree is a fluff degree like Art History major. A comms degree is probably the easiest degree, and it's what you major in when you are not very smart and don't want to work hard in college.

LOL No it's not. There is so much one can do with a communication degree.

Communication is broad and has helped me so much.

Have you seen how much communication executives make?

have you seen how much an accounting major makes, and not even at a director level? I mean.. how many comms majors make it to director/executive level?

how many accounting majors make it to executive levels?

Comms major is a joke. It is one of the easiest fluff majors out there.

What do you do with a comms major that you can't do with any major and a class in speech communications?

The ability to communicate effectively is powerful and very much needed in any organization. Furthermore, my communication classes was much more than speech communications. There are laws and ethics surrounding communication in every society and culture.

It's clear you don't know wtf you're talking about.

Communications is obviously a major meant for athletes and those who can't do any other major.

One of my nieces was a gender studies major. Went to med school, and is currently at Harvard.

Yes, so she needed another degree to get a good job. I think that's the point.

If you want to go to med school, you have to get an undergraduate degree (with few exceptions). Apparently perfectly good schools don't think her gender studies degree is one "of the worst majors out there".

Are you educated enough? By your reasoning, every one who pursues M.S. or PhD or professional programs like Medicine, Law, or MBA does so because they couldn’t get a good job! Are you for real?
