Communications is obviously a major meant for athletes and those who can't do any other major.

One of my nieces was a gender studies major. Went to med school, and is currently at Harvard.

and Mark Zuckerberg never graduated from college, what's your point

I did not even realize you could get a degree in HR or construction. It surprised me to see that.

I wonder if this list is combining AA/AS and BA/BS degrees? Since it's referencing "construction trades" (not construction management which is a BS) and those are generally AA/AS degrees.

It's not. A lot of schools that have architecture programs also have construction programs. Real estate--with elements of finance and investing--are sometimes bundled into architecture programs as well.

I have a Poli Sci undergrad and a gender studies/policy graduate degree. I think they were incredibly useful, and weirdly my graduate degree might be more helpful. I currently run a consulting agency and both have helped me be a very strategic thinker, able to explore outside viewpoints, and generally understand the world around me. They are both super versatile as well. If my kids were interested, I wouldn't have an issue with these as majors.

That's the point. These majors are worthless by themselves, and require going onto advanced degrees to have any point.

The problem is, the vast majority of students taking these majors are not going to medical school or graduate school, not least because they cannot afford it. So they are in-debting themselves for a degree that is unemployable and worthless.

No one fails in these courses. Colleges love them because the cost of instruction is very little (no lab equipment, etc.) and it gives them guaranteed income since students who dropped out of more difficult and worthwhile majors stay at the school instead of dropping out altogether.

They also happen to be the most popular majors, so colleges are graduating boatloads of these majors with no future prospects. Look at the distribution of majors in post universities - these useless majors largely dominate. Meanwhile STEM degrees cull students due to lack of professors.

Public universities should focus on the public utility, not activist struggle sessions and ego-stroking for professors (who themselves went to SLACs and private universities). A single STEM professor hired is worth the investment in 10 professors in these worthless majors.

Note that I didn't list out degrees in Education, Psychology etc., because while they tend to also be on the easy side, they provide valuable training for society. Psychology majors go into counseling and Education majors go into K-12 teaching (although these days they need to get masters and certification in many states).

Planning out investment is not censorship. Even Obama constantly talked about emphasizing STEM education in K-12 and universities.

A comms degree is a fluff degree like Art History major. A comms degree is probably the easiest degree, and it's what you major in when you are not very smart and don't want to work hard in college.

One can do far more with a communication degree than an education degree.

You sound dumb.

LOL No it's not. There is so much one can do with a communication degree.

Communication is broad and has helped me so much.

Have you seen how much communication executives make?

Comms major is a joke. It is one of the easiest fluff majors out there.

What do you do with a comms major that you can't do with any major and a class in speech communications?

The ability to communicate effectively is powerful and very much needed in any organization. Furthermore, my communication classes was much more than speech communications. There are laws and ethics surrounding communication in every society and culture.

It's clear you don't know wtf you're talking about.

most people can communicate effectively without getting a comms degree. Please. It's a joke degree.

This is not true. Most people are not strong communicators.

A comms degree is not necessary to be a strong communicator. It is one of the easiest degrees.

We need more teachers, not more youtubers or influencers. Comms degree is a joke degree. You might as well go to community college or a trade school.

Yes, so she needed another degree to get a good job. I think that's the point.

Are you educated enough? By your reasoning, every one who pursues M.S. or PhD or professional programs like Medicine, Law, or MBA does so because they couldn’t get a good job! Are you for real?

you're kind of dumb.

An undergrad degree is required to get a masters degree. The gender studies person went on to get an MD. She could've majored in math, and would've still needed an MD because that is what is required to practice medicine.

By itself, the gender studies doesn't do much for you.

I have an undergrad from a no name u, and I work in the tech field. So, it's not like I'm being an elitist.

You seem to be really angry and hurt and have some personal vendetta against communication majors! LOL

Did someone with a communication degree personally hurt you?
