I wanted to become a hard news journalist and that degree opened the door. Yes, I work with people who don’t have a journalism degree but they often had connections I didn’t have or graduated from Ivy League schools, which I didn’t. It’s a competitive career and success requires long hours and weekends. But if journalism is what you want to do, a degree opens that door. Fwiw, I am middle-aged and will earn about $130k this year. It may not be much by DCUM standards, but it’s decent pay for a job I love.[/quote]
