I work in a school. I'm going to be wearing a mask until I retired. Many other people still wear masks in my school as well. Schools are full of germs. I'm not afraid of dying from COVID but I appreciate some level of protection from all the other bugs that are constantly circulating around MCPS -- the flu, strep, the common cold. I love wearing my mask! You can belittle people like me all you want but wearing a mask keeps me from getting sick. |
Would you feel or act differently if you had a hearing-impaired student? I'm guessing/hoping you aren't a lower elementary teacher, where a broader set of students could be impacted by a teacher always wearing a mask. Otherwise I don't really care when someone chooses to wear a mask as long as they're not trying to force it on anyone else. |
If there were 3 or more cases then requiring masks is consistent with MCPS practices and DHHS recommendations since the spring. |
More than that, we know there were principals that continued quarantines at their schools after MCPS policy and DHHS recommendations ended the practice in early March. |
Come into the classroom. You will quickly realize that wearing a mask doesn't impact students at all. |
It could, but it probably wouldn't. Regardless, a single case isn't an outbreak. DHHS said to mask when there are three or more epidemiologically-linked cases in a classroom. |
How many hearing impaired students have been in school with your kids? Reality is very few so bringing this up is silly. Keeping a teacher or staff healthy so they can provide care to your kids during the day should be your priority or you'll have to care for your own kids if they don't have enough staff... think about it. Masking is a simple thing to do. |
What grade? And what disabilities are you accommodating among your students? |
Have you ever thought about the student in the next desk over whose parent may be fighting for their lives with cancer or other health issues and them getting covid would be serious and delay treatment? |
Three cases in a classroom, and you get masks for 10 days. Seems a reasonable compromise for now. |
Isn't it easier to stay I don't care about Larlo's mom or Layla's dad as the only thing that is important is me. |
Sounds like that student in next desk should wear a good mask. Or maybe the parent should inquire about getting an apartment next to the hospital. The hospital where my wife got her transplant did that for her when she was recovering after the surgery. |
It’s not as simple as one kid masking. Most people cannot afford to move out nor would leave their kids like that. You’d think you’d have a bit more empathy to what your wife went through but clearly you were not taking care of her. |
That’s right- I wasn’t, since that was well before we were married. I really don't get what your expectations are. There has always been, and will always be, infectious diseases of varying severity. There has always been, and will always be, immunocompromised individuals, and other people requiring medical treatment. And for most of those individuals, schools will be far from their only direct or indirect source of exposure to infectious diseases. |
Nope, my child and two other students worked in a study group with a teacher who came to school sick for 2 days prior to getting tested. My child wore a kn95 and never got covid but the two other students who were unmasked did. |
