| Did the OP ever come back? I call troll. |
MCPS has always been one of the zealots across the country for Covid overreaction. Is it hard to believe that one principal is still brainwashed by the past? |
| I would ignore it. I can't imagine they're actually going to make sure every kid has had a test, and the teachers probably don't feel like playing masks police (unless they're a*holes). |
Kn95 masks are available for purchase. You have nothing but excuses. |

OP here. I read the notice carefully. It says there are 3 or more positive cases at my kid's classroom for the last 14 days, so that's why they want kids masking for 10 days. I have asked my kid if those positive kids were in the class this week, and I get no answer (still try to get to know other kids).
We have new principal this school year, so we don't know her standpoint or get to know her well. We had 2 field trips last school year, and I hope that we will have field trips this year as well. |
Exactly. If you as a parent are worried, you can outfit your kid with a KN95, goggles, and instruction to not remove it ever while indoors, with accompanying guidance to teachers. Your kid will be safe, at least from COVID, mental illness will be the side effect |
N95 are also easily available on Amazon and tested in the US. Level 3 surgical masks are ok too. But, if you read real studies you need multiple layers of mitigation, not just your child masking. |
You don't have the right to know the names of the other kids but clearly there is an outbreak in your classroom and masking is appropriate given the exposure level. So, they are following the rules and you just don't like the rules. |
It’s not hard to believe, it’s just incredibly depressing, at least based on the OP’s initial post, i.e., masking as a result of *one* positive case. Now that s/he’s clarified that it was three positive cases, that’s less nonsensical. |
Yeah, that clarification changes a lot of the conversation here with respect to following policy. |

I still remember the MAGA people poo-pooing covid when there were only six-cases in the U.S. We all know how that turned out.
I also see the "covid is like the flu" crowd is here as well. News flash - flu doesn't cause cumulative brain damage or lung scarring (e.g. pulmonary fibrosis). "Compared with the control group, volunteers with a prior SARS-CoV-2 infection had an additional 0.2% to 2% gray matter loss or tissue damage on average between their 2 sets of scans. For context, adults lose about 0.2% to 0.3% of gray matter in memory-related brain regions per year" https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2790595 This article is written in simple terms for the "covid is like the flu" people to understand. I know the deniers will say - oh, that guy is old, but I would remind everyone that there is no long-term data on multiple covid infections since it's only been in the U.S. since 2020. However, there is data that pulmonary fibrosis (a) does occur with covid and (b) is cumulative with re-infections. https://www.statnews.com/2022/09/05/dying-of-idiopathic-pulmonary-fibrosis-a-disease-i-never-knew-existed/ My kids stay masked, but if the lemmings want their kids to unmask, I feel bad for them, but on the other hand this is the only way that some people learn? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |
Ok? Masks are there for you if you want them. |
One positive case can cause an outbreak in a school. |
No, keep up. They want to wear masks to avoid COVID which is in the classroom. COVID is much like getting the flu now. So no, they are not "afraid" nor do they think it's a dangerous disease -- they are simply trying to keep the entire class, and probably the entire school, from coming down with a bug (COVID, which is much like the flu now...) at the same time. I'm not afraid of COVID. But I don't want to waste my time getting it (again). |
