She usually spends the summer there, per news reports I heard earlier, and returns to Windsor in October. But I think receiving the new PM in Balmoral is unusual. She would normally travel back for that, so that was another indicator that things are not entirely usual.

This makes me so sad. My grandmother passed several months ago - she loved the Queen and the royals. Truly the end of an era.

There is no “wishing for William.” He isn’t next in the line of succession. There wasn’t ever going to be a choice.

her kids were largely raised by nannies, governesses, and boarding schools. I’ll never understand people who send their kids to boarding school—who is raising these kids??

Plenty of us went to boarding school and had a wonderful time. My friends from that time are still like sisters. You won’t understand because you’ve never experienced it.

Am I the only one who ... doesn't care? I have zero connection to England or the Queen, for my entire life she's been an old lady, and this just doesn't move me.

It'll be like when an actor or singer die whose name I've heard but have never watched or listened to their work. I just think "well, that's too bad for their family" and move on.

She can’t even “go straight to William.” Changing the line of succession requires an Act of Parliament. The Queen has no control over it.
