I find this very hard to believe. What private school are you referencing? At our top public, Northwestern kids were all either top or close to top. And the one girl I know who matriculated to Northwestern from an elite private school was valedictorian.

You don't have to believe me. I say this only because DCUM is often alarmist and makes people think these places are impossible to get in. No, they're not. Average students from private schools will get into NU.

Nope.

You’re the one that was going around saying Northwestern has a 60% ED acceptance rate. You have absolutely zero credibility. In short, you’re a liar.

The lowest Ivy is still better than the best B1G school.

When objective lies get you nowhere, you turn to subjective lies. Clever!

Recommend looking beyond statistics and how impressed your neighbors would be when considering colleges. Both colleges have excellent faculties and engaged students. Doing well - and being involved at any of them - would look good in the workplace. Go visit the schools and have your child imagine what their life might look like on campus - and why they might like it. (Which, by the way, would be a nice thing to include in their personal statement for that college.)

Subjective opinions, by definition, are not "lies".

My husband actually got into both but picked NU because he wanted to (and did) major in a very specific field of engineering for which NU had a better program.

NU's co-op program is better established than Cornell's so if that's something you're interested in, I'd pick NU.

Northwestern is harder to get into than Cornell (7% v. 10.5% rates of admission), but the settings are quite different. Ithaca is a rural college town while Northwestern is located in Evanston--an upscale suburb of a major city (Chicago).

Cornell's last admission rate was 7 percent for class of 2026. Already posted this. Gotta read the whole chain.
