Claremont McKenna is in an elite class by itself as is Harvey Mudd College.

Bowdoin College has a friendly, close-knit, elite, prep boarding school feel (more like St. Paul's School & Groton, than Andover or Exeter).

My guess:

1) Williams College
2) Amherst College

3) Pomona College
3) Swarthmore College

5) Wellesley College

6) Carleton College

Scripps?

Yes, Scripps should definitely be there. The ranking below (using totally different criteria from USNWR/WSJ/Forbes) has Scripps at #3 INCLUDING national universities. Not saying that seems right, but it's not nothing.

Welcome to the 21st century!

PP for the mic drop

Except for Parchment data is notoriously self-selecting and unreliable.

Better than something out of your ass lol

Peer reputation scores did not come out of my ass, but from college dean's and presidents they seem to agree that USC is overrated. NYU has Stern and Georgetown has SFS.

USC has School of Cinematic Arts which is #1 in the US if not in the world. Its Engineering is better than NYU. USC Marshais also highly ranked.

I'll take a bet.
USC will be higer than NYU for 2023 by USN&WR
Let me know how much you are willing to bet.

Except the GT School of Foreign Service, which really doesn't have a domestic rival in terms of curriculum or selectivity.

Scripps?

Sorry, I forgot Scripps College. Probably around #30, but because of the consortium, it could easily be one's absolute top choice school. Scripps is a special place--just like CMC. The difficulty with LACs is that fit is much more important than with respect to National Universities. So many great colleges & universities in the US. Please accept my apology for my oversight.

Interesting list which ranks 100 colleges & universities. Topping the list is #1 Pomona, then #2 Northwestern, #3 Scripps, & #4 Wellesley. Georgetown University is tied next to last at #98.

Yeah, I don't think any of those elite universities are gonna lose any sleep. But you gotta admit it is interesting that it's possible to develop such a list from data in common data sets and princeton review ratings.

Columbia was removed from the 2022 ranking (tied at #2) due to recent disclosures of improper data submission to US News. Columbia University is one of a handful of elite schools that does not submit a CDS.

For the top 5, go with the 5 largest endowments (Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, MIT).

Then Penn, Chicago, Northwestern, Caltech, & Duke in some order.

Johns Hopkins and Columbia tied at #11.

Next grouping: Dartmouth, Brown, Vanderbilt, Cornell, & WashUStL.

Next 5: Rice, Notre Dame, UCLA, & Cal-Berkeley.

USC may move up from its current #27 position.

UCLA, Berkeley, USC, and Cornell will fall. Emory, Georgetown, Umich, UVA will rise.

Uva booster has arrived.

Georgetown has been around #23/24 for as long as I can remember … I feel like that’s where it was when I went there in 2005, and any time I’ve checked since then, it’s been in the same place. So I’d be surprised if it moves much.

It was 20 a few years ago, it'll likely pass Berkeley this year.

Berkeley will rise. Berkeley’s admission rate fell to around 11% this year.

Another poster with no clue about how rankings are made. Admission rate is not in the mix.
