This. With only a few hours, you could maybe go out to eat. That's eat. Doesn't matter if it's DCA or IAD. And DCA would stress me out far more if I left due to traffic, congestion, and bottlenecks at bridge. I remember being a single, 20 something living in the district thinking it was the jam. Now, older with kids, you couldn't pay me to move back - crime, guns, rats, garbage, homeless run amok, terrible public schools, and the whole your vote doesn't matter squat thing. Particularly now when we have so much turmoil in this country and we need all the help that we can get. Still, DC residents prefer to brunch than have their votes count. So you can look down at the suburbs if you like, but we're the voters, and the ones actually doing something about the state of this country. Why don't you lend a hand and skip the mimosas? (hint - going to a march, begging friends in other states to vote, and sending postcards ain't it) And no, DC statehood is not in the pipeline in this lifetime. |
As someone who lives in the suburb, I haven’t seen an Applebees out here in years. They’re closer to DC than out here. |
+1 DC has turned into quite the shithole. Far from what it was a few years ago. |
Dulles Airport is like 20-30 mins from Tysons Mall. Why waste the time for a short layover? |
| Your friend is coming into an international airport, most of which are located outside of major cities. She has a layover, not an overnight by the sound of it so quit being intentionally snotty and ignorant and figure out how you can visit with your friend. Sounds like you are an unimaginative friend if museum is all you can come up with for a quick visit. |
| Define a few hours? 2 hours? It is t worth leaving the airport. 6-8 hours? There’s an air and space museum in Dulles. As well as one Loudoun not too far from Dulles. |
It isn’t* |
| Watch a movie, have lunch, stroll around in Reston Town Center |
I THINK there is one not far from me in western fairfax, but we NEVER go there. There are too many other options. |
aw, thanks - I'd happily have a drink with you out here in the suburban hinterlands I'm just done with Rs and their BS, especially insurrectionist trash like Hawley.
|
Ummm you realize that the DMV suburbs are totally blue, right?? Especially NOVA. lol |
|
Meadowlark Botanical Gardens if it's a nice day.
There's great food near Dulles, particularly Indian and Vietnamese |
| OP, is your friend hot? |
I am trying to follow your comment. I am well aware that NoVA is blue. Are you pointing to the the poster who said something about the SCOTUS justices and Hawley living in NoVA? Plenty of them do. Thomas lives in Burke somewhere. Hawley (also mentioned in that post) most likely lives somewhere in and around Vienna since my friend saw him there with his kids. I live not far from Dulles, and that was why I was joking about suburban hinterlands. I was responding to the person who said I sounded fun - I'd love to have a drink with that person. I am a generally fun and nice person - but I do not mince words about the scum who attempted to overthrow our government and are still trying. |
NP and as someone from Missouri, couldn't agree with you more. I don't know what is up with my home state. They excel at electing remarkable douchebags to office out there. Now I'm in Virginia and fleecy-vest Youngkin is giving them a run for the "biggest tool" award, of course. I'm constantly torn between LOLing at them and thinking "God help us all!" |
