Man - tough to get thru that skull of yours. You are the one basing your entire argument on winning-is-better. Capital has the talent to beat those teams. They're just coached with a focus on maximizing recruits ... because of ... equal ... rotations. Capital talent development is doing just fine ... Killed it with the 23s! |
Newbie here, so please forgive the ignorance. Presumably some of you know who are the very best DMV HS girls players. Do most play for MD teams? Just trying to understand the landscape here. |
Fair. If you don't think your daughter can be a starter on one of the top end teams, the best decision is to go to a place where equal play time is the goal like Capitals. All depends where your daughter stack ranks on a given team. Just be honest in your assessment. |
For the record, you have been responding to more than one person, so I guess we all have thick skulls...
|
If these girls are standouts then they probably have been on Pride or Stars for years and Capital already knows who they are. You are correct standouts do not need to attend those clinics. The clinics might help some, but even before tryouts Capital probably already has a good idea of about 85+% of the blue roster. |

Assuming this to be the case and you had a goalie daughter who dreams of D1, what would you be looking for in a club and how would you rank the NoVA and MoCo options (putting aside commute and price)? |

Sorry for the repeat post -- this thing is a bit glitchy
|
Exactly... would you rather ride the bench on Skywalker's, Hero's or M&D -- drive those miles, spend that money on tourney hotels, get no time on the field and have little / no opportunity to make an impression with coaches come recruiting time ... or ... make Capital (if you're good enough), get equal time on the field, and get recruited to as good (or better) schools? Thank you!! Finally some rationale POV here. (There are no "starters" on Capital btw ... those rotate equally too). |
if you can start on Skywalker's, Hero's or M&D, go. Those girls are really strong and play a high level all year due to high level HS season...your daughter will benefit. If you can't start, stay in area. |
You don't go to those Baltimore teams to ride the pine. The top players make the move there to start and player with other top players. That's what no one is grasping here. Right now, there are maybe 3-5 top players on each MS DMV club, that's it. The top Baltimore clubs have rosters full of top talent. But if you are looking at making a move to Baltimore teams, you are making that decision with the notion of starting on that team. You just also proved the point of other posters. They aren't good enough to start on the Baltimore teams but they are "good" enough to play/start on Capital? So which is it, Capital is as good if not better talent or they are not in comparison to the Baltimore clubs? |
| How many people posting on this thread actually have daughters playing for Capital? It sounds like another thread of keyboard parents convincing themselves that their daughters being on a different club in nova is a fine idea. Capital is the only competitive tryout club in Northern Virginia. The rest might cut 1,2 maybe 10. Capital cuts around 80. |
| Playing not to win and only get recruited is hard for me to wrap my head around. The goal should always be to win. What are we teaching these players??? I think all players should get into the game, but more of a 75/25 split with starters vs. non-starters. If my daughter was one of the top players and she was only playing half the game, we would probably start looking for another club where she could get more playing time. Seems like an odd way to run a club, but I understand the recruiting aspect behind it I guess. |
