How was he wrong for saying it? The kid said “You’re an n-word.” He replied “I’m not an n-word.”
Because White people should never say that word. Ever. It does not matter the context.

Are you saying this child was sensitive to and injured by hearing this word voiced that came out of his own mouth with such ease? Laughing so hard. And what a weird thing for the AA kid to call the white teacher. Wonder what he meant by it, huh.

This is the only part that's on video, so you don't see whatever abuse he's been enduring previously or the lack of support he had in dealing with it. You don't have to think he handled it in the best possible way - I'm sure if he could redo it he would have acted differently - to think that a focus on his behavior in the moment is misplaced.

Why? He literally did nothing wrong and should not have to wonder 'what happens next'. Beyond, is this kid going bye-bye or what?

This is a ridiculous take. 99.8% of the time that word should not come out of a white person’s mouth. But this teacher did nothing wrong here. And that student is a POS.
I love how White people will find some minute obscure instance and use it to justify when it's ok to say. And defend this position to the end. Why is this worth defending to you? Why do you want reasons to be able to say that word.

Here's another example:

A kid calls my kid "insert N word". The defend his kid and says, "My kid didn't call your kid "insert N word".
NOT OK. Never OK. You don't need to say the actual word to deny it. It's dumb and all it's going to do is add gas to a fire that's already brewing.

It's not weird for a Black person to refer to non-Black people as that word, it happens often. No, I'm not saying the kid was sensitive, this is beyond that kid. Saying that word in a classroom full of students was not the right thing to do. Saying that word as a White man was not the right thing to do. There was zero reasons for him to repeat that word.

It actually is ok. It’s only become not ok due to a truly absurd extension of cancel culture where black kids and singers make extensive use of the n word, but then go to truly absurd lengths to punish anodyne uses by others where the word is being used to quote what someone else said, and not an insult.

Ok so how about the kid calling the teacher a homophobic slur?

It’s ridiculous for a group of people to take a slur and claim it’s absolutely, indisputably A-OK when we say it and abhorrent when you say it, to further put it in songs and movies and such, and, worst, to do as this kid did and taunt someone with it in an effort at entrapment.

Claiming the teacher erred on some technicality is an odd understanding of morality. Clearly the student was 100% at fault here.

The teacher shouldn't be canceled. I feel bad for the teacher, and lord knows what it's been like trying to teach this kid all year. But it doesen't mean the teacher was right to us that word. He wasn't.

I already said in my prior post, the kid was 100% wrong. And that was just one of the many reasons why. I'm ashamed and embarrassed by that student's behavior. I still think the teacher was wrong when he said that word.

So like, your .2% of the time is when a child says it to get an adult riled up, the adult can then say it?

Neither the student nor the teacher should say the word ever. Neither is more right or more wrong in this personal instance. When kids say that word around me, I say you should not use that word it cannot be reclaimed in any way that lessons its impact. You are wrong for using it and participating in a racist structure by using it.

Um, there were other kids in the classroom that heard the teacher.

This teacher has been verbally abused all year by the student and when the student called the teacher the n word, he denied it. He did not say you are a n**
I don’t understand how people on here are saying the teacher is in the wrong in some way.

My .2% includes this bullshit situation and a white person explaining to their own kid that they can never say the word.
