Why don’t more parents send their kids to Basis McLean?

Not like wisconsin Ave doesn’t have solid cars idling or driving 1 min from sidwell or gds or cathedral schools.

There's a difference between being located on Wisconsin Ave and being located on the Dulles Toll Road. Being located within a stones' throw of a major highway? That will worsen asthma in children. There are studies that show this.

Or move to the rural desert and never exercise, that’s good for asthma too.

Checked sound by howloud.com:
Basis McLean: 8000 Jones Branch Dr. McLean, VA 22102: Sound score is 70
which is better than
Sidwell: 3825 Wisconsin Ave, Washington, DC 20016: sound score is 69

AirNow.gov and bunch of other websites/apps only provide air quality data based on zip code. According to https://www.breezometer.com/, Sidwell AQI is 49, Basis is 34. The lower the better. But again it's based on zip code
we need a better tool to find out more accurate data based on the detail address.
Still searching...
The ultimate way to compare the AQI, is to collect the air sample then send it to the lab. Statistically, you need to collect samples on different days, each day different times.
"
My point is, you can just say kids will get asthma by playing at Basis's playground. You cannot just say "there are studies show this." Yes, in general, bad air quality won't do any good to people especially kids.
But all these worries and conclusions are based on one assumption: The air quality is worse here in Basis which I think is not true. You need to prove it scientifically.

Besides there is insulation wall on Dulles Toll Road.

I don't mean people born here, I mean people who came as adults. The person boosting basis over and over again makes very distinct grammar errors characteristic of nonnative Chinese speakers. Given that Basis is Chinese-owned, I would not be surprised if this someone in China (or here, I guess) hired to hype the school

So you narrow-minded won’t believe people just say what they think and share what they know.
To you, people will lie for money. Then who gave you money to post here?

Why is it all the same person who just so happens to be Chinese?

Its common knowledge backed up by a lot of research that living that close to an enormous highway is terrible for children's health.

I wonder how much they pay this PR guy.

The BASIS parents who love watching their kids beaten into prime test-taking condition are pretty fanatical about their support. You can see that they hold parents who want something else in a kid's education in contempt and can't tolerate any criticism of their sacred school.

Unfortunately, that school has a limited range of assets and a very checkered history. They don't want that mentioned to prospective parents who need to know.

I am so glad all those racialism, discriminational posts were from those who trashed Basis. I am so glad we won't need to deal with those kind of parents in our Basis community.
For those who think I am hired by Basis. I am really worrying about your IQ and might be IQ is the exact reason why your children won't fit in Basis and why you don't like Basis. With what kind of IQ a person would think Basis would hire a nonnative English speaker to "boost" Basis in an English forum?

The personal attack parade just won't quit.

My parents would’ve loved a school like Basis for me. They were singularly focused on tests and admissions. The kind of parents who envisioned an economically prosperous future as a reward from a brutal life like banking or medical school, both of which are great careers for the right person, but for the wrong person, can be tragic. When I was in school getting amazing grades and getting academic awards, I somehow thought I was better than my peers, and I didn’t take the time to get to know them and their strengths. I was such an idiot. Later many of them carved out amazing lives with their varied skills, talents, passions and abilities, and I was the one who was jealous. So I became humbler, and I learned. I had a bit of space to, because of all the credentials I’d won when I was younger. When everyone says, “Wow, X school,” it opens doors that makes things easier. My life has been pretty good overall. My parents did their best, and I’m still grateful. The “grind” period of life was pretty miserable for me though. I don’t wish it on my kids.

I think every parent does what’s best for their kids given what they know, and Basis students are clearly desirable to certain colleges, so something good is happening there. Not for me or my kids, but I’m not against it

Unless you are zoned for freedom hill or pimmit hills, the public school are very good so there is no point in going to basis

Well said. I wish years later my kids would learned from their school experiences too no matter if it’s the most fit or best but all of us, patents and kids, have tried our best.
My kids don’t feel the pressure, burden or grind at all at Basis. They like it.
Tj, McLean and Langley all are good public schools and prepare kids to colleges very well. They may have better resources, opportunities and college outcomes for kids who can stand out of big crowd. Basis is small, kids will easier to make friends here. Teachers give more attention to the kids. These are the reasons my kids like this school. They feel respectful and friendly.
Lots of good choices in this area. Basis is one of them.
Again, I am not hired by Basis. I am just a parent whose kids happen to like the school and happy there.
They are in the lower to middle school. I will definitely reevaluate which high school they should go. Most likely they will stay here because they like it so far and academically they handle it well here. They are not that outstanding who can do well in a big crowd.
I am sorry for those who feel offended by some of my posts. For a nonnative English speaker I don’t have the skill to organize the words perfectly and may cause some misunderstandings. Besides I am the one who been attached and discriminated first.
I hope I can see more constructive posts here like this one I just quoted.
I want to learn from other parents and students here while I am sharing what I know.
I am a busy working parents rarely having time surf internet before except for the past days I feel like I should say something I know.

Anonymous wrote:BASIS McLean has a pretty decent rejection rate -- in other words, it knows what size it wants to be and it only admits the kids it believes will be good fits. So it's not that more parents don't send their kids there; the school decides what size it wants to be.

HA! This is hilarious. From an employee's perspective--we used to be able to reject students who weren't a good fit. Then the school got desperate to increase enrollment and we were no longer allowed to reject anyone. Students who were so obviously not a fit were forced to be admitted just to fail. If we tried to reject anyone, we would hear from the higher ups (remember, this school is owned by a Chinese-based private equity group who only cares about $$$), and the decision was no longer ours to make. The rejection rate is close to none at this point.
