Why don’t more parents send their kids to Basis McLean?

How is the culture? College admissions?
Do they even have enough kids for sport teams?

It doesn’t have the reputation or caliber that parents spending $50k want. No one going to Sidwell or Cathedral, GDS or Maret would choose or even apply most likely. It’s not in the same realm. That’s the answer to your question op. I have ne we heard of it or know anyone that had applied there or considered it.

They’d probably apply if they live in McLean. I see a lot of BIM families in McLean. It looks like the BIM kids are being prepared to tackle college level work and that is the most important thing. Everything else is secondary.

Who needs to be a human being too? Just tell your kids to shut up and go study harder.

BIM is a pressure cooker test factory beloved by the parents there who want to pound their kids into shape.

For everyone else looking for something outside that very narrow lane, don't bother.

^^ the kids aren't stressed out. So it may seem like a pressure cooker but the kids thrive.

lol classic BIM parent justifying their decision because they couldn’t get into another school.

The preK 1 and 2 are very good. Kids learn and have fun learning. Have been very happy with the early learning program.

Is there a waiting list at BIM? Are admissions competitive?

BIM only waitlists/rejects if a family cannot afford tuition.

Wut? The purpose of life is preparation for college classes? Yuck.

Clearly we are not in the same social world. For most in private school it is so much more than academics. It’s a community, it’s athletics, it’s resources, so much more. I don’t want to put down the school that I’ve never heard of but I’m just being honest I’ve never heard of it and I don’t really see my kids in that community. I don’t know anyone in that community I’ve never heard of it and I think most people who live in Washington DC/ Bethesda, Chevy Chase have no interest in sending their kids to a school like that. Maybe people in Virginia? But even the people I know who live in Virginia in our social circle send their kids to schools that I know such as Potomac, Saint Agnes Saint Stephen’s or Episcopal - just different kinds of communities.

So that’s your answer OP as to why no one is sending their kids there because it’s not what they’re looking for. But I will add that I’m very happy that they provide another option for families that don’t care about the more main stream top privates or can’t get into those because those tend to only take a few applicants and I’m glad that there’s another option.

Maybe for the desperate.

Looks like BIM had more NMSF this year than GDS, NCS, Maret, and WIS.

Great results for a school that only opened 7 years ago.

Please stop. This thread is long enough.

Why is everyone answering OP from 2022?!! In response to this post which bumped the thread, yes our DC came here for the Early Learning Program (goes up to kindergarten) after starting in daycare. It’s way better here than daycare since as part of a school, they just have a lot more resources and physical space to do all the specialized activities (art, PE, music, bigger playground, an atrium, etc) with specialized teachers and classrooms. In daycare, everything was either in that one classroom or in the small playground outside. Of course, there is also a different in cost. If it’s not a financial stretch, definitely worth it IMO.
