Has any aspect of ACPS improved under Hutchings leadership

Anonymous
Hutchings goes after the learning pods in his book while his kids are in private school? What an ass. The people I knew that had “pods” basically ended up with a babysitter providing tech support and supervision to a small group of neighborhood kids so stents could work. There wasn’t opportunity for much actual teaching or enrichment because the kids were stuck on screens for virtual school all day.

This dude is unbelievable. So much hubris.

I hope you review his book on Amazon when it comes out 6/16.

Since it appears that he's including that nasty and untrue accusation in his book it's clear that 1) he thinks it was ok to accuse parents of being privileged and responsible for the learning gap (there was already a huge one pre-covid) for keeping their own kids IN ACPS but it was fine that he had pulled his kid out for a partially open private school at 17K a year and 2) that he would get the last word on this.

Don't let him.

He wrote this book during the worst of the pandemic and his refusal to open schools to even the most vulnerable. He had zero concern about the learning gap because he'd already come up with his narrative. Parents were responsible for the gap. Not him. And he's sticking with it.

The school board was put on notice in the fall of 2020 that he was spending his time writing the book. The last school board and the current school board are also to blame.

Uh, because we as parents vote in members of the school board who fall in line behind him and are afraid to hold him accountable. Yet we rail on and on every year about how he manages to keep his job despite his hypocrisy.

I am a new parent to ACPS. When do we get to vote?

In three years. School board was just elected.

Parents also allow PTAC. Do a search of PTAC on this forum. You'll find multiple stories about the woman on the PTAC board who was banned from her kids school for celebrating her kid beating up another child and routinely harasses neighbors and parents. That is who represents you and signs glowing op-eds about Hutchings and ACPS.

Y'all are going to vote for the people that end up paying Hutchings $20mil to implement his ideas in ACPS. Probably send parents a free copy of the book too.

I'm the PP you quoted; honestly IDGAF about PTAC. I hadn't heard about PTAC until I started browsing this forum.
A few years back, my DD's grade was a shitshow. Some prominent parents in the school's PTA had kids who were also affected. I attended the school's PTA meetings that year in hopes something would be done, but surprise, surprise: nothing happened. Hutchings outright refused on multiple occasions to hear about the bad stuff going on. Maybe I wasn't privy to some of the undercurrents, but during that awful school year there was no mention of PTAC.

Sounds like you should care about PTAC. They (and the PTA) are supposed to be advocating for parents and kids. There was no mention of PTAC because they don't help parents, they just use them.

You're correct. You can bet that 15K copies of Hutchings' $35 a copy book will be purchased for every kid/family in ACPS. That will be a nice little next egg in his LLC coffers.

The school board is Superintendent Hutching's Boss. They do not work for him. Share your concerns with the school board. As someone said they were just voted in. As a group let's make some change.

Does anyone know someone on the school board who is responsive to communication?
