Has any aspect of ACPS improved under Hutchings leadership

Anonymous
To honor Hutchings’s upcoming book reflecting his supposed great perspective as a superintendent, I am wondering if anyone can identify any aspect of ACPS that has improved under his leadership. I cannot think of anything.

Renaming schools
Top prize for Regeneron Science Talent Search was awarded to a TC senior
Not yet implemented but likely change of TAG services to a push-in vs pull-out delivery model and continuous identification of students in need of services.
Completion of Patrick Henry K-8 complex
Patrick Henry and Polk were named in 2019 to the VDOE highest achievement award (52 schools in the Commonwealth were recognized for exceeding state accreditation standards and making continuous improvement in improving outcomes for students and in narrowing achievement gaps.

Of course there is still room for improvement and outcomes and delivery of education is inconsistent across the district. But there are some bright spots.

Renaming schools was organic. Not sure how he’s responsible for an individual student’s accomplishment. I’m sure 2019 gains have been annihilated.

And yet, he really had nothing to do with any of this.

I cannot possibly fathom how this kid's amazing accomplishment has anything to do with the superintendent.

Correct, and ACPS historically had a limited number of very successful students at the top of the high school class. The fact that a ACHS student won this award doesn’t suggest that the number of really successful students at the top of the high school class has grown at all under Hutchings.

It does, however, validate their not allowing Alexandria City kids to apply to TJ!

How did renaming schools improve anything? All it did was cost everyone a bunch of money so the district could virtue signal.

Yes, he has reduced the overcrowding in ACPS schools by encouraging white flight to private schools.

His bank account is improving. He has his LLC nice and organized and he hasn't had to spend a dime on research or promotion. That's all been taxpayer funded.

Sad that the Hutchings twitter parody account has been abandoned when there is so much material. I guess the faux Dr. Hutchings has moved on.

Sad to see you go @realDrHutchings !

Much easier to identify the aspects that have declined during his leadership—staff, especially teacher retention; family engagement; inclusive best practices; transparency….

PP again.... should have added that LCTA has been a gem! We are out because we vote no confidence in the rest of ACPS
