Falls Church vs. Alexandria

Hard pass on FC. Imagine having to deal with 7 corners on a daily basis? Kill me.

Huh. Guess you're forgetting our serial murderer (old news but still), the recent murder in OT, the attempted murder at Bradlee, the increasing gun shots being fired throughout the city, and the most egrigous of all, the October rape of a 14 year old girl at the high school by a group of boys who were all missing from classes from hours that went completely unreported to the community and left that poor girl hospitalized and without any supports, etc. If that's your version of safe then I don't know what to say.

Your traffic times are ludicrous. You cannot get from here to Children's Hospital in 20 minutes unless it is the middle of the night and you are speeding the whole way. Ask me how I know. Furthermore, from the hours of 2 to 7 pm on weekdays, getting back in to Alexandria on the GW Parkway can take upwards of 45 minutes because the traffic slowdown begins before National Airport. Again, ask me how I know.

I also have no words to describe your cavalier attitude about the Xfinity monopoly. Many of us depend on our internet connections so that we can WFH. If you don't then at least you can respect the opinions and concerns of those of us who do. Furthermore, FIOS still won't be offered to the whole city population, which leaves many residents dependent on the monopoly.

You fluffers need to give it up because no one is dumb enough to believe you. Alexandria has significant problems. I and others like me will continue to publicize it because it seems to be the only thing that works.

We get it. You hate Alexandria, yet you still choose to live here. The solution to your problems is to move. We have a large circle here and nobody has had issues with crime or the internet. Has my commute to CNMC ever taken 35 mins? Sure but that’s uncommon. Has my drive back from CNMC ever taken 45-50 min in rush hour? Sure, but it’s not common. Do I normally get there in under 30 mins in the am? Absolutely. Drive with me sometime.

You seem to cling to the past and isolated incidents and talk as though it’s the very relevant present/ future and part of a massive ongoing problem which is simply not true. That “OT murder” that you imply is part of a trend? It was 4 years ago when a mentally ill NJ man randomly drove here and tragically killed a stranger. Killer deemed insane by the court. Unfortunately this can happen ANYWHERE. It sucks, but welcome to real life. We live in a major metro and it is not perfect—if you’re looking for that you won’t find it in the DMV. Go find a nice Norman Rockwell-esque town in the middle of nowhere (where PS life is also not perfect).

If you can take a step back, maybe appreciate how insanely lucky we are to live here relative to how/where the vast majority of the world’s population lives.
But I suspect you can’t do that as you feel compelled to complete your self-bestowed quest of “publicizing” the many 3rd world problems of Alexandria.
We await your hyperbolic reply telling us how Afghanistan is in better shape than our city.

Guess what? FCC residents don’t have to!

Take I-66 or metro to DC, Broad St/7 West to Tysons, neighborhood streets to Arlington etc. Alexandria is nowhere as well situated as FCC. I can’t remember the last time I saw Alexandria on any best places for health, wealth, schools rankings.

I live in FCC and smoke.

Yes I do get a whiff of THC here and there in FCC waking by the houses..people do not believe my sense of smell....
I am assuming there are not many neighbors that you would think would join you? more the wine crowd it seems to me up here.

FC is suburban hell surrounded by highways and clogged roads. No wonder it can't compete with Alexandria.

I dislike both. Falls Church City is nice but their tax is way too high. Falls Church that belongs to FFX is rough and has bad schools, Alexandria has horrible horrible schools. Go to Alexandria if you send kids to private schools.

Please describe, with objective evidence, exactly why Alexandria city has universally “horrible horrible schools.” This is a tired DCUM trope. See the longer post above somebody made about city schools and how the “rankings” tend to destroy schools that happen to serve non-native English speaking and lower SES families. There’s a lot of truth there.

My kid graduated in 2018 from TC- Public all the way through. Offered admissions to UPenn and Cornell. Went to Stanford. I love it when they trash TC. It makes my child's accomplishments seem so much bigger.

Alexandria craps all over Ballsack Church. Is this a serious question or a troll post OP?

Alexandria has some beautiful parts near the water and the historic Old Town areas that FCC lacks. Alexandria outside Old Town is not walkable and lacks metro (people drive and park).

FCC has better schools, city services, safety, better walk ability (other than Old Town) but is more expensive and higher taxes.

But like a PP said, not comparable markets. People select between FCC, Mclean, North Arlington and Alexandria is not really in that mix.

+1. Alexandria is more of a Tier 2 place to buy houses similar to Springfield and Burke.

This post may win Troll of the month. Or it’s the person who keeps saying the internet service is ruining his/her entire life and breaking Alexandria. Probably doesn’t want any more people moving here who may drive up property taxes.

Well, I graduated from a school in a poor 3rd world country and got into a top US college, but would you send your kids to the school I went to? LOL
