What foods will you absolutely NOT eat?

Sea cucumber. I still have a bad memory where I ate a whole plate of them at a restaurant as a kid, then shortly after started feeling queasy and threw it all up in the bathroom.

You are really high maintenance!

My thought was "You're really missing out!"

I never understand people who REFUSE to eat someting (that they aren't deathly allergic to). Most of the time, you "hate" a food because your first experience was bad -- due to poor preparation or some negative context. Why shut the door forever?

As a kid, I hated most of the foods PP listed. Now I love many of them. Your tastebuds mature -- give new things a chance!

Im 35. Ive worked in multiple high-end restaurants and multiple members of my family are chefs with their own restaurants. Both sides of my family are very adventurous eaters and I will try anything twice- except sea urchin. Wont do that again. Ive had multiple opportunities over my lifetime to try those items. My moms favorite vegetable is brussel sprouts and I cannot eat them because of the smell when they are cooked, but I can eat them raw.

Super condescending post btw.

Liver
Eggplant
Any organ meats
most seafood (I just don't like the taste)
Artificial sweeteners
black eye peas (lima beans aren't great either, or for that matter I'm not great with any large beans, but black eyed peas are small and TERRIBLE).
Anything too exotic or out there (I don't know who is eating rotten meat but I can pretty much guarantee I would not eat that)
Kiwi - I seem to have some sort of allergy to it, it's easy to avoid so I haven't explored it and if it's really an allergy or anything at all really, I just don't have it.
rye flavored things - rye bread

I feel like I am moderately picky? Or just a middle American palate.

This is no way to live

I'm serious. I'm not American and the smell/texture of the foods above make me sick. I eat a lot of stuff that Americans won't touch - liver and most organ meats, pate, sauerkraut, anything sour, escargot. I love brains, especially as tacos de sesos. I won't eat cow udder.

That fact that you think all of the foods you listed are "American" is hilarious. Moronic, but hilarious. Just embrace the fact that you are picky af and stop trying to pin it on declasse "American" culture.

Husband hates onions, cucumbers and raw celery. I've cooked without these ingredients for 37 years. it's hard.

You can get by without cucumbers and raw celery. Onions? Come on.

Mushrooms, organ meats, bologna, hot dogs, salami, kielbasa (but I like pepperoni on pizza and eat most other sausages.) I was going to say avocado, but every couple years or so I'll try some guac when I'm eating Mexican just to prove to myself I still don't like it, and I've eaten it in tiny pieces in California rolls, so it's not true to say I refuse to put it in my mouth. I also don't eat tofu/soy because it gives me terrible gas. That's not me being picky or disliking it, you just don't want to be near me after I have it.

Well I don't eat meat so there's that.

I won't eat sprouts or papaya. That is mostly it in terms of vegetarian food.

Beef, pork, fish or shellfish.

This is how I convince myself to continue to try things. My taste preferences have changed as I've aged.

This is not true. Your brother lied to you when you were 12.

The rings of calamari come from the body of the squid, also called the mantle, which is cut across the length of the body.

I’m a pescatarian but the only seafood I eat is fish (no shrimp, clams, mussels, etc). I also hate mushrooms, mayonnaise, and gelatinous stuff like marshmallows or jello but I’ll eat them if I need to to be polite or if it’s all that’s available. I used to think (and was told by my parents) I was a super picky eater but at some point I realized I just hate meat (never liked chicken nuggets or hot dogs or hamburgers or other typical American kid foods so I think that’s why my parents labeled me picky) Since becoming a vegetarian years ago, I actually eat a wider variety of foods.
