schools like U of Richmond, but a higher acceptance rate

Let's get real. Reed, Occidental, Oberlin, Sewanee etc. -- none of these is similar in any way to U of R's heavily NE preppy wealthy and moderately conservative vibe. DCUM posters and be so off base sometimes.

I don't have any particular recommendations, but if ones exist they are private schools in the NE with a wealthy student body and they are larger than your typical liberal arts college. Fairfield sounds like a reasonable alternative. Villanova used to be but has gotten too competitive in admissions.

UR is not southern at all.

+1, after Virginia, the most represented states are NY, NJ, PA, CT, MD, MA and IL

I went to UR for grad school. The undergrads are all from the northeast it seemed, it is not a southern school at all, it is just located in the south. Like Duke, which has a large number of northeasterners.

Sounds a lot like Sewanee to me.

In my graduating class from Richmond, there were more kids from NJ than VA.

I think that the University of Charleston would be a great fit for your daughter, OP.

The Ring Dance tradition seems very Southern to me.

College of Charleston, which a couple others already mentioned, was the first that came to mind.

My HS friend is in the registrar’s office there. It is beautiful on the mountaintop there, but it is *very far* from anything. It’s like monastic living.

There are several monasteries here in DC; you can live a monastic life anywhere.
