Nothing at all like Richmond. Dennison and Furman are the best suggestions so far. Suburban LACs that aren't too tiny, although Dennison's acceptance rate has gotten almost as low as Richmond's. Maybe Rollins in FL.

But Denison has a lower admitted student profile--most students apply test optional and the average SAT scores of those who do submit are lower than U of R's. So there's a lot more people who could get into Denison than Richmond (just by nature of the bell curve on scores), so the acceptance rate isn't that telling. If the student was competitive for Richmond they'd be likely for Denison.

Occidental, Reed similar to Richmond? What planet do you live on?

OP, I can't comment on the others, but I have been on the campuses of Oxy, Reed, and Richmond and there is no way the first two schools are similar to Richmond.

Bucknell's acceptance rate is slightly higher than Richmond, and has slightly lower average SATs. Also, compared to other SLAC's they are not more selective for girls. Nor is Lehigh. So if OP's DD is competitive for UofR, but not certain, they are good alternatives. OP didn't ask for safeties.

In USNWR, U of Richmond is 22, Bucknell is 38.

If it's because it's fairly politically moderate, has Greek life and is preppy, maybe Gettysburg or Bucknell again? If it was because it's a SLAC in/close to a city maybe Macalester or Kalamazoo.

All of this of course depends on how close she is to being able to get into U of R.

This PP knows their stuff.

I think looking at admitted stats are more important than admission rate in determining your chances.

+1. My kid was also looking for SLAC but wanted near a city and preferably not cold weather so Rhodes (Memphis) was the closest match. Also, if your dd is close with stats to getting into U or R, make sure she shows interest and consider applying ED if it makes sense for your family.

Why not Furman

Does anyone have more suggestions in the Southeast or West Coast? Thank you, OP, for starting this thread.

Rollins (in Orlando) has a similar vibe but is much easier to get into than U of R. I can't think of a West Coast LAC that isn't super woke left wing SJW, which is not Richmond's vibe at all.

Good call. If the kid is interested in business, which is big at UR, I'd also throw in Babson, though I'm not sure how much easier of an admit, if any, it would be.
