Bad Vegan (Netflix documentary)

What mother is sending millions, cashier's checks, to Las Vegas believing she's helping her daughter. How did she have all this $$$$ to just send, no questions asked?

Sarma? Sure she's culpable. No sympathy at all. She needs a conservatorship going forward...and frankly there are too many things that don't add up. One can't be that smart and that dumb at the same time.

I think she knew what she was doing but at a certain point she realized she was in too deep and was totally f**ked, and decided to just lean in to the victim thing, and pretend she wasn’t in control of her actions (like stealing from her employees, who had been like a family of sorts to her); she did not want to be held accountable.

I think that by the time she went to Rome this was already in play; I do not believe for a second that she actually believed the immortality stuff. It served her to pretend she did - or maybe she managed to convince herself in order to absolve herself of reprehensible things, like stealing from her own mother. She was emotionless when talking about the ways in which this damaged her mother; I did not see true remorse or sadness. Maybe some crocodile tears.

I never understood who the guy with curly hair was doing narration. I felt like he was a SNL character.

He was a reporter who had been talking with both Sarma and Anthony in prison. So he was just another person to interview about his own perspective. Although he didn't tell Anthony's side much, so not sure how much he really talked to him.

She seemed to have a lot of sources for borrowing money. Do you think Alec Baldwin was giving her money here and there?

Also, the main investor, Chodorow the guy interviewed in front of the pool:, he seemed to never really expect to get his money back. Is that how it works? I have an acquaintance who I realize now is so much like Sarma. She's opened and closed several restaurants and shops (some vegan, one similar to one lucky duck), has dedicated employees, and always with this mysterious financial backer. Her places are small and not high end. I've always been curious about how she and her husband make enough money to travel frequently, pay their mortgage, raise their kids, but always starting these new business ventures, all with the debt they owe to the financial backer. I'm not clued in to how this works, at all.

I can’t finish this. But did they ever explain the IT guy, Will? He was just a total scammer too?

This is why I would never want to have sex with most celebrities. I assume they've been with a LOT of partners including random groupies and fangirls/boys, and I would get a disease.
Lots of people you date have probably had lots of partners with all the dating apps there are. It doesn’t matter if you’re a celebrity or not, but it matters weather they are practicing safe sex or not.

He didn't exist. It was Anthony the whole time.

She strikes me as someone who actually has really low self esteem about her worth and frequently uses her looks to gain affection and attention from just about anyone who would give it to her. The homeless guy in the show who was her "friend", pretty sure she slept with him...what other reason would he have to be so dedicated to her? And he even says their "friendship" began when he eyeballed her on the street. And I think it all stems from Daddy issues...

I thought it was boring and ridiculous.

Nope, it was an actor just reading the email messages.

+1. I knew those emails were phony. Nobody would talk so passionately about their client (or even their friend).

I started watching but couldn't finish. She lost me when she was playing victim and refusing to take responsibility for her own actions. That BS that she was alone at her mom's place in the country and she was so freaked out about being alone in the country so she just had to call Shane/Anthony to get her after she tried to cut contact then "he sucked her in" . . . She made about 73 bad decisions that day and blames it all on him.

My take is she was single and desperate, with low self esteem and never had a good relationship with a guy. She did stupid stuff like start a serious relationship with Shane before even meeting him. Then she meets him and he's fat after sending her pictures of himself as thin. Huge red flag but she was so entangled before she even met him so she ignored it. He told her he was so wealthy and she didn't want to give up on the dream of him saving her financially. He used the same con as the tinder swindler. Tell the women you're rich and you love them. Then ask for money and make them feel like users if they want your money but won't give you theirs. The women pay to keep up the chance for this rich guy to save you.

I had to stop watching because I just couldn't stand her and had no sympathy for her.
