Just remember whether or not your child was accepted is not a reflection of his ability, there are just not enough seats of every qualified applicant. Your DS will thrive wherever he goes...best wishes.

I don't think any schools have numbered waitlists.

If students turn them down, they look and see if there's a pattern and fill gaps. So, maybe they lost more boys and admit a boy. Maybe they lost more girls basketball players and admit a girls basketball player.

Think of it as a wait pool, not a wait list. If they need to pull from it, they’ll try and find the right student (gender, interests, etc). It’s not ranked necessarily.
