We are also waiting to hear if our kid will get an interview for 10th grade. We haven’t heard anything so far. Has anyone (9th or 10th) gotten an email saying their kid didn’t make the GPA cut? Our older kid got admitted a couple of years ago for 10th. The process seemed the same as 9th that year. They did interviews and then he was out on the waiting list. He got in off the waiting list. |
I'm interested in this, too |
| There’s no email from Walls saying DC didn’t make the cut, and I’m sure they didn’t: DC had a 3.1 GPA in 7th. (Went up to a 4.0 as soon as school reopened, but Walls doesn’t care. DC applied to prove that point to the shocking number of people who flat-out refused to believe it when DC tried to explain it to them.) |
Refused to believe what? Walls has always used 7th grade transcripts for 9th grade admissions. |
| So does this if you didn't get an invite from Walls this weekend you didn't make the cut? My DS has 3.4 GPA. |
3.4. will not make the cutoff. |
| Just look at not getting an invite as a teachable moment in their lives. |
You know how grownups refuse to take kids seriously. “Oh, but you’re so smart.” “Oh, that’s tough, but you’ll get in, the waitlist almost always clears.” “You should have more confidence in yourself.” Don’t worry, my kid understands. And I agree with the PP that the life lesson is as valuable as anything taught in the classroom. Kid is just tired of being patronized, and figured it would be easier to say “I didn’t get in” than “I didn’t apply.” It’s not as if the application process was onerous. |
| Did parents apply to Walls and Banneker or just one? |
Most kids I know who had the GPA to make the Walls cutoff ended up applying to both, even if they prefer Banneker. |
9th grade maybe? Not so for 10th |
| Has anyone received a 10th grade interview invitation? |
^^not cutoff (no idea). just weekend invites |
My 3.4 kid has not received an invite - but friends have. Fingers crossed for private schools |
| A 3.4 for ninth grade will not make the cutoff for an interview. |
