DCPS HS Interviews

Anonymous
Does anyone know when interviews will be scheduled for Banneker and Walls?

Mr. Rottman told my kid that recommendations aren’t due from DCPS teachers until today (2/8), so I don’t think the schools even have the applications yet.

My kid got emails for interviews last year in early March. First week of March for SWW and the second week for Banneker.

Walls doesn't even require any interview or personal essay before they pull names out of the hat

You mean they don’t require any recommendations, they do require an interview.

They do but it's hard to take them seriously at this point. Seems more like a popularity contest if a kid gets an interview...

The first round of Banneker interviews is next Wednesday.

This is nonsense. Interviews are based on a GPA cutoff. You can claim interviews are a ‘popularity contest’ (which still sounds ridiculous when adults are interviewing 8th graders but whatever). You can’t claim getting an interview isn’t quantitatively based.

Has Walls changed its policy? Last year the high-stakes admissions interviews were conducted and scored by high school students.

Last year when there was even more rampant grade inflation, was there even a real thing as gpa? Even this year if a kid submits an assignment with their name on it, the lowest they can score is a 63. If an assignment isn’t submitted at all, it’s scored as a 50.

This comment is so bitter and sarcastic I can’t understand your point. If you are arguing that pandemic year GPA is an inaccurate gauge of academic potential, I agree. If you are arguing that every 7th grader had a 4.0 last year, you are very much mistaken.

The GPA cut off for Walls is only a 3.0. That is easily 2/3 of students at Deal.

If walls will no longer require a test it seems they really ought to raise the GPA minimum. Unless they are not actually looking for kids bright studious kids.
