False. |
I spend a good part of the year in Florida. I hardly ever see any UT gear here. I do see Michigan swag much more often. |
I've lived in 3 of the 4 cities I listed and you have not. |
I have lived in 5 of the 4 cities listed. |
shrug. About half of all living Michigan alum live in Michigan. http://www.annarbor.com/news/where-u-m-alumni-live/ The rest are along the Amtrak corridor for the most part. Data box: Where are U-M alumni? Where the people are: Top 10 states Michigan: 211,025 California: 41,072 Illinois: 26,374 New York: 25,360 Florida: 16,422 Ohio: 14,136 Texas: 11,908 Massachusetts: 10,632 Virginia: 10,344 Maryland: 9,704 |
I mean, yeah, Florida is a very popular place for Michiganders to retire to and vacation in. Or to move to to escape the cold. Less common for Texans to do so. |
Gee I see 41,000 alumni in California. The most outside of any state other than Michigan. I highly doubt Texas has anywhere near that amount in CA. Michigan has over 640,000 living alumni. Texas, 540,000

Park City, Utah? Lol. That little hamlet? |
the article says that 40% of Michigan alum live in Michigan and "It's clear, however, that local business leaders are worried the state's brightest minds are leaving Michigan. A lot of the young talent is leaving the state," ForeSee Results CEO Larry Freed said at Gov. Rick Snyder's recent economic forum. "The talented workforce is in high demand, and there’s not enough of them.” |
The article is 8 years old. Semi-worthless. |
“ Of the 41,000 alumni that reportedly live in California, half live in greater Los Angeles and San Francisco.”
……..and that was 8 years ago! |
how so? it's an old article, but as a Michigan native I don't think anything has changed at all since it was written. maybe exact numbers are different, but Michigan grads leaving Michigan is still a huge issue the state struggles with. if anything, I'd hypothesize it's sped up in the last 8 years. |

90% of UT students come from Texas. A much higher percentqge than Michigan. The vast majority of them stay in Texas after graduation. |
No question. Notre Dame. There are fans who have no connection with school in terms of attending or family attending. They are called subway alum. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subway_Alumni |
I agree with what you’re saying. I’m stating that since so many Michigan graduates leave the state after completing their degrees, that is why you see much more swag throughout the country. Furthermore, Michigan accepts a higher percentage of students who never lived in the state to begin with. Naturally, more will leave after their education is completed than probably any other highly ranked public. |
