HSPT Results

Just got ours at 10am this morning. I don’t know what to think about scores. My child was high in some areas and average in others. What kind of score is needed to get into SJC?

The think I find most valuable about the results is the ability to help my child fill in gaps that I did not know existed.

My child is in "advanced math" and gets straight As at her DCPS. I am surprised that her math score was a 54 percentile!

Thank you HSPT for bringing insight to something I suspected - but really had not evidence was a problem.

I got you beat. Kid scored 22 and 427 😂.

People with lowish scores. Did your kids do any practice tests or go in cold?

This should be. My son was admitted to both last year with an 85% but we are not Catholic and were coming from DCPS

Has anyone child been accepted to SJC with a score in the high 30s with all A&Bs?

Yes. I called the admissions office in a panic after getting HSPT report came. The lady I spoke with was lovely and said that the score is only one thing they look at when reviewing applications and that they know it is only a snapshot of what a child's capabilities are. My child went on to SJC, did extremely well, took honors and AP classes.

Are the school choice numbers listed on the upper right in a certain order (such as numerical)? I do not recall being prompted to indicate a rank ordering. Also, do the high schools see these?

Not from our k-8 Catholic last year unless your son is a direct legacy -- only father or brother legacy. Only 2 boys admitted who were non-direct legacies from the 11 boys who applied last year. My DS scored mid-90s. The other non legacy boy admitted was certainly higher (based on knowing this boy for 9 years). Great recs and solid applications otherwise, too.

if a child has straight A's, solid recommendations and scored in 96% do they have a chance at a grant of some sort? Or, do you need 99% how does that work or is that a whole other thread? grants aren't that much money, either way, just curious

I imagine it varies, but Gonzaga doesn’t only admit 90%+ boys. Plenty of boys get in with scores in the 80s. HSPT is just one thing they consider.

Any sense on what is needed for Holy Cross? We are coming from public and my daughter did fine - but not her best test day. (Low 80s)

Sure it varies. I'm reporting very recent info from a k-8 that regularly sends boys to Gonzaga. Several families felt the cut was brutal. Maybe our year was just really heavy with the father/brother legacies. My unhooked son needed the top scores for admissions.
I'd still recommend anyone interested to apply. DS is a fan.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am not the PP, but am still really hoping that my DC is accepted to SJC.
