I take it someone has never seen the Lion King…

Or the first fifteen minutes of Up?

I watched it the other night with my son. I liked it, and I especially liked the music outside of the cast songs...Carlos Vives! I thought the visuals were excellent.

Or the end of Coco. Good grief, the ridiculous rules some of you have about appropriate places to express emotions.

***Spoiler alert***

But omg, the scene where it shows Abuela & her husband fleeing with their babies, and then when he sacrificed himself to save his family....I was ugly crying so hard. Like, loud, audible sobs. Almost as bad with the raccoon short before the movie, that had tears streaming down my face. Disney's hitting hard with the emotion.

It was mediocre. Most of the reviews agree too.

Some reviews are just supporting Colombia so the bland “plot” and rehashed music could do not wrong and it’s superlative city.

Definitely NOT frozen, Moana or coco caliber.

I’m white and it matters for my DD to see this representation as well. I’m happy that she is seeing movies with people who look like her friends and that she enjoyed it. It’s her favorite movie. What a boring and bland world for those who fail to embrace the richness and beauty of cultures outside their own.

Yeah, the colorful animation was very prevalent. My kids love Totoro too.

Meh I thought it was alright.

No where near Moana quality IMO.

My kid loved it.

I think you missed the whole point of the movie…

As usual, someone has to do the hard work of raising the family, keeping the family house and land, being the glue for all teachings and traditions, and not letting wild animal behavior take over… and it’s the woman. The neglected, unappreciated, ridiculed woman.

I agree with those who didn't find the songs that "sticky" initially, but really loved them after a few listens. Just listened to Dos Oruguitas in Spanish and English, and read the lyrics. Such a beautiful song and such a powerful scene in the movie.

It is an annoying movie and I’m Latina. Awful.

It made me want Mirabel’s skirt—it looks so fun to swoosh swoosh dance with!

The movie was meh, though. I felt like there were way too many characters to keep track of who added nothing to the story line. Shape shifter sibling? Little animal speaker? It just made it feel cluttered and hard to follow.

However, my girls did say, "This movie would have been so much better if Mirabel got a gift at the end!" I was like....what the heck girls? You missed the point of the entire movie! Haha, oh well, they did enjoy it though.

The songs get better and better with every listen. Surface Pressure and We Don't Talk about Bruno are phenomenal songs. My girls and I have been singing together constantly since seeing the movie.

Dos Oruguitas is heartbreaking. So beautiful.

Well I hope she at least got her own room outside the freaking nursery!

I agree. My kids who are going insightful 7 amd 9 year olds couldn’t really follow the plot and I’m not sure I did either.

Yes, it was fairly subtle, and actually the Surface Pressure song I think explains a lot but it just shoots by (…useless…) Great song though.

Surface pressure. Super earworm. I especially loved the line about Hercules.

Don’t take about Bruno

Dos Orguitas.
