Saw it for the second time today and loved it even more. The music, animation, and story are all fantastic. Loved all the positive messages, like we shouldn't have to be strong or perfect all the time.
***Spoiler alert*** But omg, the scene where it shows Abuela & her husband fleeing with their babies, and then when he sacrificed himself to save his family....I was ugly crying so hard. Like, loud, audible sobs. Almost as bad with the raccoon short before the movie, that had tears streaming down my face. Disney's hitting hard with the emotion. |
I enjoyed the movie too, but didn’t get super emotional. Up and toy story 3 had me holding back tears, but not encanto. It was really good though and I will watch it again when it comes to Disney+.
I loved it but also didn’t get emotional. Beautiful animation, music, and story.
It has beautiful animation. I loved the diversity within the family. The songs weren’t memorable and the story didn’t have a very compelling plot. Generation trauma as a villain didn’t really work.
We saw it a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. The animation was beautiful. I don't remember any of the songs, so or me anyway, they were pretty forgettable. But the kids liked it, good message. Basically what you'd want from a Disney movie.
Is it only in theaters or online too?
Boring. No memorable songs.
I thought the songs were great. My kids have been listening to the soundtrack since we saw it. Bruno and Luisa’s songs are their favorites.
The songs were awesome - We don’t talk about Bruno and Luisa’s song?!!!
The songs are really, really well written. Lin-Manuel Miranda is so talented and the music is way, way, WAY better than Frozen. I think what didn’t work for people is there weren’t any ballads a la “Let It Go”. |
There was a great ballad in Spanish in the scene where Abuela tells Mirabelle about the start of the miracle. The same song is in English I think during the credits: Dos Oroguitas. It's beautiful.
My DD loves this movie. It’s been playing on repeat all winter break. The soundtrack is really good and I love the caterpillar song despite not knowing Spanish. That singer has an amazing voice. Lin Manuel Miranda is so incredibly talented. Very well written. This might surpass Moana as her favorite.
Same! We have been watching on repeat all weekend. It's a brilliant movie with an incredible soundtrack, I'd say some of Lin-Manuel Miranda's best work to date. I read that Waiting for a Miracle was written as the movie's power ballad, although my favorite song is We Don't Talk about Bruno. |
“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” was the best song! And my heart hurt when we saw Bruno’s spot at the table behind the wall. Poor Bruno!
I loved it! Beautiful visuals and I thought the songs were great. I've watched it twice, once with my kids and once solo.
