What is your point? Do you want scientists to stop researching new variants? Do you think a virus isn't capable of mutating enough to present us with new problems?

The point is that if you look hard enough you're always going to find variants. Big whoopdie doo. There are many scientists out there looking to make a name for themselves by stoking fear over every variant they find. If you study the cold virus guess what? You'll find that it mutates constantly. So friggin' what? Stop with the fear mongering. The economy is going to open. Covid will spread and mutate. Oh well. Humans will learn to live with it. We don't stop the world because there's a much more dangerous bug out there like multidrug resistant TB now do we?

So omicron is just a result of looking too hard? Good to know.

You're missing the point. There are variants. Scientists should be discussing them. But right now omicron is being presented in the news as a big threat, yet there is no actual data to back that up. Under a microscope, scientists think it looks like it may evade vaccines. But there is no data to back that up. And countries all over the world are closing borders based on this possiblity with no real data.

The best way to stop it is to not bring it in the first place. They are right in closing.

A new variant of course is a threat. Don't minimize covid.

Not minimizing it. Just bored of it. I like seeing the overreaction in these threads, though.

I think it’s funny that random people on this thread think they have the same information as world leaders/top scientists. Obviously we don’t know everything and those who have actual information are concerned. Remember this is the same administration that was quick to get rid of mask requirements for vaccinated people. I don’t believe they would do this over nothing.

The one thing the minimizers have in common is a gross overestimation of their own intellect and mental state. The constant need to show one is not overreacting has become a pathology on DCUM.

You don't honestly think any free society will be able to keep COVID variants out, do you?

There’s not this massive of trove of information we’re not seeing. Everything gets leaked to the press or via Twitter.

It’s amazing you think otherwise. What do you think is in this super secret info exactly? The specific genetic mutations? That’s out there. The outcomes to date? Case counts by geography? We have all that. What are we missing?

A new variant of course is a threat. Don't minimize covid.

You know what else is a threat? The big number of fungal infections that can no longer be treated with anything that works. New variants of bacterial infections are nightmarish and very frightening. Go look up the horrific photos of what happens to people who get fungal infections that travel up to their heads/brains. Do we shutdown the world because we have drug resistant super bugs that keep spreading? Get used to COVID. Get used to not wearing masks ina world where COVID exists. Get used toiving a normal life with COVID. Enough of the chicken little sky is falling nonsense every single time we have to move to a new Greek letter.

The good news is that even the California governor is saying no new restrictions are coming. Local leaders have finally realized they’re futile and destructive. Borders are being shut down as kind of a Hail Mary to pretend you can keep it out or by leaders who want to be seen taking action.

No but we do want the collective panics to end

Honestly I hear far more "big whoop" and "nothing burger" sentiment than panic. Is there a rush on toilet paper at your local Target? Didn't think so.

Maybe the media should report that instead then

It seems from this thread that many of you don't want them to report on Omicron at all. I came here to see where the case was in California since I know public health folks at UCSF, but 2 out of 3 posts are here apparently just to let us know that they don't care. We get it.

HAHAHAHA. Wait. let me get this straight. You come to an anonymous mommy message board, of all places, to get your public health information and then get upset when the replies are not to your liking? I...have no words.

Its just a select group trying to justify their craziness in denying covid.

Sometimes I wonder how many people it actually is who post this stuff, or if it's just a couple people sockpuppeting. And if it's the same people who've been posting "stop panicking" "don't be hysterical" "nothingburger" etc, etc since spring of 2020.

Because there is a concerted effort in our country to help Covid spread for political reasons. And it seems to be working, looking at the latest polls on how people think Biden has handled Covid. Despite doing everything he could to bring down the case count, people still blame him and not the anti-science GOP for our Covid woes.

Haha, you’re too much …

I'm not sure that going into threads to deliver lectures will really effect change.
