Omicron is in the US- CA

Once people start to pronouce it correctly, then I'll be convinced of its deadly power.

In other words, water is wet!

Were they able to treat it with Tylenol?

After Omicron there will be more that come along, so we just need to get used to the new normal.

Just curious what that actually means? A lot of people like to say that and "learn to live with it", but is the assumption that as long as your are vaxxed, no further measures need to be taken as new variants develop?

DP. That's my definition precisely.

All of that is good news.

+1, OP. I think there is media hype over Omicron for ratings. I am not discounting it, but I give it a side eye.

Of course there is! I’m really shocked at how so many well-meaning people are naive about ratings & clicks.

Both can be happening at the same time of course.

Dr. Peter Hotez, who's been right more often than most, thinks we're going to get a 2-headed epidemic.
Delta will tend to infect those with no immunity, while Omicron, because it looks to have more immunity-evasion properties, will infect those who are partially vaccinated or were previously infected but unvaccinated.

That Omicron is spreading so well in a part of South Africa with a low vaccination level but high prior infection is instructive.

I don't totally agree given the majority of the world is not yet vaccinated and the virus is mutating quickly; however this is what happens with flu.

It means that you cannot stop living your life for christ sake! You're wearing a mask, vaccinated, boosted, washing your hands, working from home. How much more of a degraded life do you want? If you want to hide inside for the rest of your life, then that's your choice. I'm choosing to 'Live with it", understanding that more variants will come along...and you will be fine!

Yeah, I don't agree at all, but I certainly hope I am wrong. I have no degree to how bad it could be, but it's not nothing.

This is what it means to me - as a family of 2 adults and 3 kids - all soon to be fully vaccinated - and who are unaware of any high risk conditions.

I think people who are high risk might have a different risk calculus.

I think the media really did a disserve to the whole pandemic. I hate Trump - but he stopped giving press conferences after they lambastsed him for what was clearly a misspeak about bleach I think it was.
