Smash and grab crimes in DMV

According to some posters here the store owner can just chill and call insurance. Is that not true?

Want to know why crime is rising? Look no further than our criminal-coddling city council which now wants to make it even more difficult for cops to get violent juveniles off the streets:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2021/12/11/dc-juvenile-justice-reform/

From the article: "The chief said at that point in October, police had arrested 78 juveniles in connection with carjackings this year, including four youths arrested more than once. He said that over a 22-month period, 17 juveniles had been arrested in homicide cases."

What these trumpies don't realize us that insurance is basically free money for everyone. So some BIPOC liberate goods from the capitalist system. No big deal. Just make a claim and the insurance fairy magically pulls the money from Scrooge McDuck's tower and so the insurance company never needs to raise rates or increase deductibles on other businesses to make up the loss.

Its definitely not the case that crime sprees cause insurance costs spike and retailers pass the cost through via price increases that are most difficult for the working poor to bear. That's crazy talk you trumpies!

And when the stores close down because of high losses suddenly there is some xxx desert which shows how racist the system is.

Yes, that is exactly how it works.

Right. And in this magical world what will eventually happen is that insurers will cease to insure urban businesses with too many claims. What happens next, Santa, you ask? Next, the businesses (and their jobs) flee the cities (see San Francisco). If you play out this progressive stupidity, you eventually get the collapse of the commercial real estate market (which would ricochet out - see 2008) because mortgages are predicated upon insurance!

The idea that it’s just a deserving person stealing a Louis Vuitton (one of life’s essentials as many on this board can attest) is the height of stupidity.

That Walmart was beautiful when it opened and less than a decade later it is a dump. In addition to the shoplifting there are numerous homeless people and drug users who loiter in front of the store or wander about inside. The parking garage reeks of urine and pot. Only a mega business like Walmart can afford to operate under such conditions.

Agree. It was great when it opened, but now is terrible. The ones on Georgia and on Riggs are much better.

It's good the perp pulled his pants up immediately before engaging the cop - I guess that shows he meant business
