Smash and grab crimes in DMV

In the last few weeks there have been several stories of flash mob/large group of smash and grab crimes, particularly in California, of a frequency and level (80 people at one incident at Nordstrom’s) that seem, at least to me, unprecedented.
Now I’m hearing from neighbors that phone stores (an AT&T store in Alexandria) and the Wegmans in Fairfax/Kingstowne were both recently scenes of smash and grabs. How do you smash and grab a Wegmans? I guess we could debate until we are blue in the face about why this is happening, but I’m even more concerned that it isn’t being reported in the news. Are retailers even reporting this stuff to police or are jurisdictions not disclosing it? Anyone heard of any others? |

| No need to publicize these property crimes. These retailers have insurance to cover any loss or damage. Don’t give trumpians any ammo to use against BIPOC. |

BIPOC/Trump-hater here, and I'm sorry, but systemic racism isn't a justification for smash and grabs. Defending this behavior only gives fuel to those who oppose the cause. We have to do better than that. |

| Given that the ones in California are being covered pretty extensively in the media, I'd be hesitant that you're neighbors are right about them happening at a phone store and Wegman's here. Not impossible that they're happening and not covered, but unlikely. |

Cool, so since I pay a few thousand to insure various property (home, vehicles) in DC, can I get a credit against my property taxes for my insurance bills, or the vandalism or theft losses? Since the government's apparent position is this BS that it's just a property crime, call your insurance. Heaven forbid anyone have "nice" things. And by "nice" things I mean my 11 year old vehicle that still had parts stolen off of it. I voted Dem but with attitudes on the left like this, the Rs can have all the ammo to talk about this issue as they want as far as I'm concerned. No one even said these crimes were committed by BIPOC, by the way, you just assumed that so good job. |

The ATT store in Alexandria Commons on Duke Street next to BI and almost across the street from Rocklands and Witter soccer field. Happened in the middle of the day last week. |

| And when CVS or other pharmacy's close due to the looting and we can no longer get our prescriptions for medication or we have to drive 30 miles to get them. Retailers are closing in SF because of this. Is this really what we want? |
