I suspect this will continue to happen and know my belongings are gone (I don’t have homeowners/renters insurance) but was curious if there are some internet vigilantes (maybe I watch too much Netflix) that bring the information together. I understand that these incidences are happening because of disparities but we are not affluent—just newlyweds trying to treat ourselves to an appetizer at a nice place.

I’m almost inclined to believe that this is a troll post because there are signs all over Georgetown warning people about vehicle thefts. But still, it’s pretty pathetic that the city has decided to just give up and accept this crime on an ongoing basis.

Reason #67121 either to take valuables out of a parked car or keep them hidden out of sight. Rule applies to urban and suburban areas alike. Most smash and grab thieves want to get in and out as fast as possible.

Yes, a troll post. Here's why: if you rent a car that gets damaged, you return it to the rental company and they arrange the repair. Absolutely no reason for the renter to go to the glass repair. Nice try, though, Natasha.

If the car was rented from an out of town agency they might need to have it fixed in DC rather than handing it in for another vehicle. So, not necessarily a troll.

Getting a car broken into in Gtown with stuff left inside does not seem particularly unlikely.

How do you know that the criminals who broke into the car are from under-resourced communities? Are you related to or friends with them? From the description they were wearing decent clothes rather than rags and driving a late model car.

How do you know that the OP is white or has any privilege? She mentions the stores in Alexandria and Kingstowne, both of which have a highly diverse population.
