No, my daughter went there and had a hard time socially as a woman of color. Very cliquey students with little exposure to students with difference- culturally or otherwise. Wonderful teachers, though, and that's what got her through. Brunswick is a cute town, but also lacks diversity and somewhat isolated. It's the social piece that is tough as a woman of color. |
If diversity was that important for her then why would she have applied? I’d also say that describing students as bratty is sophomoric. Your daughter made a bad decision but that’s not a reflection on the school. Grow up. |

+1 Absolutely. |
I've read many of DCUM responses in my day but this comes across as nearly the most obnoxious. Mother of daughter who experienced a difficult time at Bowdoin socially, I'm sorry. Strong academics but insular. |
There should not be schools that are socially challenging because you are not white in 2021. It is not about numbers, it is about how she was treated. How DARE you blame her for choosing an unwelcoming environment. |

My daughter goes there and this has been her experience so far. |
| Olin engineering |
My son is there, studying engineering, and has found it to be a very friendly, collaborative environment. He has also been struck by how outgoing the majority of students are. He is having a very good time inside and outside the classroom. |
If you're a Bowdoin alum: You're not helping it look better. |
The two Yale alumni I've known were great. |

+1. Show me the pomp and snootiness by UVA people here. What I have see over and over is that people here bash UVA because they or their kid didn’t get in and they are still annoyed - or kids from UVA’s rivals, UMD and Vtech want to have some fun tearing it down as in the frequent asinine “UVA is overrated”post. The response is almost always someone carefully correcting the false info, usually bolstered by citations, a quote and a link. I’ve never, ever, seen a thread started by someone claiming to be a UVA student, grad, or parent raving about it. Frankly I don’t think they have the time to bother with this site just like you don’t see threads started by Harvard or Stanford people raving about their school and demonstrating “pomp and snootiness”. Why would they bother? What you see on in this forum is sour grapes by those who didn’t get in or knew not to bother even applying followed by an absurd claim (“pomp and snootiness “) and then various voices correcting that claim. |
