I'd imagine a highly competitive public. Private universities are chock full of privileged brats. At least mine was.
Purdue for STEM, eg, yes. UVA, no, as this board shows so much pomp and snootiness and weird obsession with reputation.
You HAVE to know that at a large public university like UVA, the people posting on here represent a tiny fraction of students and that it, like every other large public university, draws a huge range of students from around Virginia and the country. Come on.
+1. Show me the pomp and snootiness by UVA people here. What I have see over and over is that people here bash UVA because they or their kid didn’t get in and they are still annoyed - or kids from UVA’s rivals, UMD and Vtech want to have some fun tearing it down as in the frequent asinine “UVA is overrated”post. The response is almost always someone carefully correcting the false info, usually bolstered by citations, a quote and a link. I’ve never, ever, seen a thread started by someone claiming to be a UVA student, grad, or parent raving about it. Frankly I don’t think they have the time to bother with this site just like you don’t see threads started by Harvard or Stanford people raving about their school and demonstrating “pomp and snootiness”. Why would they bother? What you see on in this forum is sour grapes by those who didn’t get in or knew not to bother even applying followed by an absurd claim (“pomp and snootiness “) and then various voices correcting that claim.
