Food for mid-morning birthday party

Anonymous
My plan is to keep it simple:

-coffee, juice, water
-fruit
-bagels & cream cheese
-yogurts

This should be plenty, right?

OP here, and this is for a kid's birthday, but the kids are young enough that the adults will stay too.

Fine

Fine, if you want something more party-ish, maybe some little cinnamon rolls or mini muffins.

That's a ton of carbs. Which is normal for breakfast, but if your social circle is anti-carb middle aged women, you may want a frittata or smoked salmon or something to add some protein.h

I agree--a little more protein would be nice. Smoked salmon, cheese, an egg dish, or something like that.

Yogurt and fruit would be fine for any anti-carb peeps.

Makes a cake out of a tower of doughnuts.

I'd skip the bagels and cream cheese and go with mini-muffins, coffee cakes, mini-doughnuts - that sort of thing. If you go with bagels, somebody wants to borrow your toaster, everybody's looking for knives, it takes two hands to serve yourself, etc.

Most yogurt is loaded with sugar (carbs) as is fruit (it's natural sugar and carbs, but it's still carbs).

I think if you add a veggie platter (maybe with a greek yogurt dip) or something else protein-y, it's perfect OP.

I wouldn't worry about the anti carb people. If it's mid morning, the people on diets will have a chance to eat their diet food for breakfast and probably won't eat anything at your party anyway.

Sheesh - It's a party, not a lifestyle. Ignore the dietitians and serve what you want. Might want to add a couple bottles of champagne off in the corner for anyone that wants to add a little kick to their OJ.

It's a kid party. Nobody goes looking for spa food.

This. The anti-carb people are not eating much between meals anyway.

What are you doing for birthday cake? Or, are you putting a candle on a bagel?

Worst party my kids ever went to. No birthday cake. They are grown and still bring it up from time to time. As I recall, each child got a mini donut from Dunkin. Kid had a full doughtnut with a candle in the middle.
