Worst party my kids ever went to. No birthday cake. They are grown and still bring it up from time to time. As I recall, each child got a mini donut from Dunkin. Kid had a full doughtnut with a candle in the middle.

That's so absurd that it must be true. I can see why your kids would still be talking about it! Sheesh!

Donuts as a birthday cake seems like my childhood dream. As a kid I’d have 100% preferred a candle in a Boston creme donut to a cake. Apparently still would.

I'm not a big donut fan but even to me a donut birthday cake sounds yummy!

But, only the birthday boy had a donut. Everyone else got a donut hole.

Who cares? I went to a really nice birthday party Recently where all the kids got mini cupcakes (including the birthday child.). No kid complained (the cupcakes were high quality) and parents were actually happier that their kids weren’t pumped full of sugar.

Bagels and Cream Cheese

Fruit (easy to handle like washed cut strawberry halves or clementines or grapes if the kids are old enough)

Donuts - plain, chocolate iced, with sprinkles (this is your cake)

Coffee Box for adults with creams and sugar, Juice Boxes for the kids, Small Water Bottles for all

For little kids you sing while your put a candle in your child's donut at the beginning of the food time.

Yogurt and fruit would be fine for any anti-carb peeps.

I agree but OPs not planning on having any fruit...

When you edited the prior messages you left out this:

It pretty clearly references donuts as a birthday cake!

Fruit is high carb. I've put out fruit trays, and maybe just the low-glycemic fruit will get eaten. How hard is it to put out some sliced turkey or smoked salmon or cheese with the bagels?

What is with the obsession with smoked salmon? People keep mentioning it, but it's not exactly a crowd pleaser for little kids.

It's not an obsession, it's a suggestion. OP said she wanted food for the adults, most of whom would be staying with their little kids. It's easy to buy and some people like it. If not, get something else.

This is for a *mid-morning* party. The only people who would be eating at that point would be little kids. If adults want breakfast, they can eat before or have a bagel and yogurt there. Just specify what you're having on the invitation, and it will be fine.

You don't need to provide full meals to adults in between regular times, FFS. Snacks for the kids, along the lines of what you've suggested, coffee for the grown-ups, and, of course, cake, are fine.

You don't "have to" do anything. But if you want to provide food for adults, as OP said she did, then she could put out more adult friendly food.

Thank you! I’m an adult and I find it repulsive.
