Food for mid-morning birthday party

Thank you! I’m an adult and I find it repulsive.

Like it a lot--but would never serve it for a child's birthday party. Is the party going to be over by lunchtime?

I like your style.

I have served a platter of bacon at brunch one time thinking few would eat it and it was gone in a second.

I’d do mini bagels and muffins if anything. I spend a lot of time with kids and bagels are not a hit. Too chewy for them.

This is is what I did for a late morning (10-12) party. I struggled a bit because I really wanted to do something brunch-y but I was working around an egg allergy and people who didn't eat pork. This seemed to work well for our group and was very easy:

- bagels and croissants (presliced)
- cream cheese, butter, jam
- a big tray with deli turkey, cucumber, tomato, avocado
- scones (ended up being totally unnecessary and I wouldn't include them next time)
- a fruit salad of watermelon, strawberries and blueberries
- birthday cake

Coffee and water for adults, juice boxes for kids.

You don't need to provide full meals to adults in between regular times, FFS. Snacks for the kids, along the lines of what you've suggested, coffee for the grown-ups, and, of course, cake, are fine.

You don't "have to" do anything. But if you want to provide food for adults, as OP said she did, then she could put out more adult friendly food.

Bagels, yogurt, and coffee are adult-friendly. It's not like she's only providing juice boxes and goldfish.

PP with the sushi tray. It was a hit and gone by 11am even though I hadn’t planned to put it out until later. Just an idea for an easy alternative. Bonus, it might satisfy our smoked salmon friend on here

I went to a 4 p.m. party with pizza and a sushi tray. hardly everyone one touched the sushi tray, but I think the hosts had it for dinner, so no big loss.

OP here. Wow, who knew this would be one of the most popular threads I created on here.

Yes, there will be birthday cake-- probably cupcakes so I don't have to deal with serving.

I might revise my menu slightly (for example, 1/2 bagels and 1/2 mini muffins/pastries instead of all bagels), but I'm not too worried about it. The kids will be busy playing, and it's not at a meal time, so I think simple/snacky will be okay. Perhaps I'll do cheese sticks along with the yogurts.

If I could buy good quality pre-cooked bacon from a restaurant, I would totally do that, but I'm not cooking bacon for potentially 30+ people. Does anyone have a suggestion for such a place in Alexandria?
