Not necessarily. DD and I had sore throats and coughs recently that lasted several days but didn't result in fever or any dramatic symptoms. Hope it turns out that you have an old-fashioned cold too. Get some rest!

THE PIG FLU IS LIKE ANY OTHER FLU, the difference is the virus, only a lab exam can tell which is which.

It was however the worst flu I had ever had in my life.

It started on a Monday with a sore throat. Tuesday my sore throat went away, but I was extremely tired. Wednesday I was barely able to get out the door to take the kid to the bus stop. By Wednesday afternoon I was feverish and by Wednesday night I was shivering and couldn't reduce my fever despite taking tylenol and motrin. Thursday I took oscillococcinum and the chills went away. I don't remember much though until the next Monday when I was actually able to take my child to the bus stop, and do the pick up in the afternoon as well. The cough took another week (or more) to actually go away.

It was miserable. The worst case of the flu I had ever had, but I didn't think it was as bad as the media makes it out to be. Don't get me wrong, I was non functioning for several days, but it wasn't as bad as I had been lead to believe it would be. My child had gotten it first, and it wasn't a bad case. No where near as bad as mine.

I think I (and daughter) have it right now, but my temp is only 101, so i'm not bothering w/doctor, tamiflu, etc. Daughter only had temp for two days and is now running around like a manic (with nose running and severe cough). We've been down for like 3 days, and the symptoms don't really feel like they're abating? It started as sore throat/cough for us, followed quickly by runny nose and elevated temperature (daughter only ever got as high as 100). Its not pretty, but we're surviving. It would suck if I worked outside the home, though...I don't foresee being 'ready for public' for at least a week?

Speaking of psychological issues. Have you had your meds checked recently?

to both PPs who think I'm nuts, do you also think that science and language are?

from a simple search using an online dictionary:

psychosomatic
–adjective
1. of or pertaining to a physical disorder that is caused by or notably influenced by emotional factors.

here is a very interesting source:

http://www.psychosomatic.org/

our behavior and mental processes can influence our regular organic conditions in so many different ways.
who never heard of a child who is anxious or nervous complaining "my belly hurts"???

There is a big difference between anxiety and belly aches than having relatively low external stresses and coming down with the flu. Just because you are a hypochondriac who suffers from psychosomatic disorders doesn't mean everyone else is. I would again suggest you have your medications checked, and that you visit your therapist more regularly.

Did you just learn the word 'psychosomatic' and want to try it out?

Actually, I learned this word long time ago while in school.
Now, after years of experience with mothers like you all, we see more and more people rushing to the doc's office with a cold. The fear of this damn pig flu makes people overreact and exaggerate their symptoms - even though the symptoms for H1N1 are exactly the same as the regular seasonal flu.
In some cases the fear is so overwhelming that it affects the person's system and they really feel worse.

By the way, hypochondria and psychosomatic disease are two different conditions. Please go educate yourself regarding the issue before throwing such stupid comments.
The community thanks you very much.

Yes, yes they are. I don't recall anyone saying they were one in the same. I in fact believe you were called a hypochondriac who suffers from psychosomatic disorders as well. Just because you have one disorder doesn't exclude you from having another.
