did you have the labs done?
it can be psychological, you know that, right?

When I read that, I thought you were joking because of the other thread: http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/73944.page

Or maybe the other thread came after you? The chicken or the egg? I have to check.

My dad (52 y/o) has the flu and he is in the intensive care unit at the hospital and will be there for at least 3 more days (has been there for 3). He was having 104F fever for about 4 days, went to the doctor, who told him it was probably just a virus and would run its course. A week after that, when the fever wasn't gone and he had new symptoms, he returned to the doctor. At that point his lungs were already so compromised he would almost faint every time he had a coughing "attack" (for lack of better word). I should also mention that my dad has no other health problems otherwise and had never had any type of respiratory issues. He only had the flu twice before (that I remember) and was always the person who would work (he works from home) even when he was sick. I am one of those people that was always saying this flu is nothing more than the other and people are panicking for no reason. I also thought this was a far away reality and the type of thing that doesn't happen to me/my family. Now I'm changing my mind.

GOD PLEASE SAVE ME!!!

It was however the worst flu I had ever had in my life.

It started on a Monday with a sore throat. Tuesday my sore throat went away, but I was extremely tired. Wednesday I was barely able to get out the door to take the kid to the bus stop. By Wednesday afternoon I was feverish and by Wednesday night I was shivering and couldn't reduce my fever despite taking tylenol and motrin. Thursday I took oscillococcinum and the chills went away. I don't remember much though until the next Monday when I was actually able to take my child to the bus stop, and do the pick up in the afternoon as well. The cough took another week (or more) to actually go away.

It was miserable. The worst case of the flu I had ever had, but I didn't think it was as bad as the media makes it out to be. Don't get me wrong, I was non functioning for several days, but it wasn't as bad as I had been lead to believe it would be. My child had gotten it first, and it wasn't a bad case. No where near as bad as mine.

What is this?

It's a homeopathic flu medicine. http://www.oscillo.com/

My friend gave it to me, it wasn't something I would normally take. I was surprised by how much better I felt after I had taken it.

I'd like to know where swine flu is this serious. It seems mild around here so far. Where did this happen -- around here? (What's it to you, are you the PP who posted the story?)

I hope your fatehr is okay. I really dislike when someone says it is just a virus. Influneza is a virus, as is HIV.

New poster here - I don't think the PP was saying the flu is of the same magnitude as HIV at all. I think her point is that people are dismissing H1N1 as "just" a virus. PP point seems to be that viruses can be bad. At least, that's what I got from the post.

Along the lines of the whole "I can take this weight loss pill because it's natural" Just because somethings "natural" doesn't mean it's safe. Just because something's "just" a virus doesn't mean it's minimal.

Can we just answer the question, please?

How does the H1N1 first start? Do you have a fever or stuffy nose?
