| For whatever reason (may be thyroid, we're figuring it out), my stomach bloats like crazy and makes me look 4 months pregnant. It sucks, especially in the summer when I'm in a bathing suit constantly. Please recommend your temporary debloat diet that I can do before the beach in two weeks. Avoid leafy greens, whole grains, alcohol. Hydrate. Anything else? What SHOULD I eat? |

Huh. I would say eat leafy greens and whole grains in abundance. They make you poop. They keep your digestive system moving.
Minimize meat, dairy, eggs - they tend to cause your digestive system to slow and get... stuck. Eat lots of vegetables, water, fruit, nuts, beans, whole grains, etc. They keep your system flowing cleanly. |
| I have this problem and it sucks. NO vegetables and fruit. Low sugar. Eat high protein - meat, cheese, and maybe some carbs like bread or rice. |
This is exactly what NOT to do, to get rid of bloat. |

I have thyroid issues, and since going on synthetic hormones after surgery, have put on 15lbs, most of it in my middle. My endocrinologist advised me to massively decrease processed carbs to lose weight, but she did not say anything specifically regarding bloat. She suggested a spiralizer to make zucchini noodles, while my kids have their regular pasta, and I have to admit, the resulting meal is not bad at all! I now eat lots of varied fresh veggies and fruit, and hardly ever eat pasta, rice, bread, and flour-based products. I like barley, and quinoa, but don't eat as much of it as I used to with pasta, etc. I don't eat too many sugary things, so that's not an issue. I've been losing weight, and am not as bloated as I used to be. I still have a tummy, but I believe this to be genetic, as all the (very thin) women in my family have a little bit of a tummy. |
| I have the same problem. If I don't eat, my stomach is flat (in the morning) but as soon as I eat something, it pops out like I'm pregnant. I made an appointment with an acupuncturist to see if that helps with digestion, I will let you know the result. |
| I have friends who swear by the FODMAP diet (google it) to combat bloating. I have only developed the problem in my 40s, and find that I'm ok if I avoid all bread products--many times I opt to be bloated because I love all the bread products. I think it's highly dependent on your body chemistry/sensitivities, strains of gut bacteria, etc. |
This sounds terrible. I'd have to get a Costco-sized jar of Miralax. |
| An endocrinologist advised me to cut out sugar and grains as much as possible, even the 'good' ones like quinoa. Lots of green vegetables, lean protein, fruit and nuts in moderation, no alcohol and plenty of water. It sucks but seems to be working. |
| Drastically cut down on fiber and raw foods like fruit and salads. Also keep carbs low and eat more fats instead. Not mainstream advice but this is your answer. |
| I wonder if you could be dairy sensitive. Try avoiding it for a few days and see if that helps. Also drink 8-10 cups of water a day. |
Actually this way works for me. Lots of fruit and vegetables make it worse! Everything in moderation, no lots of any one thing, smaller portions more often. Think 5 small meals not three regular ones. I would also add no carbonated drinks even seltzer and room temperature water. |
| What is your salt intake? |
| When people talk about bloat I never know if they’re talking about a distended abdomen from gas or a swollen abdomen from water retention. |
So you would risk diabetes, heart diseases, and overall poor digestive health so you don't get bloated? Dear God, people. |
