Why? In what sense?

Technical director left for Arlington and CYA no longer part of VDA.

I don't think anyone has made it news, but it's true. The CYA technical Director took the head job at the Arlington Academy, quit CYA and VDA. The rumors are that he and the board didn't get along because he wasn't interested in doing any of the administrative work that came with the job. Basically, great coach but his management skills were lax.

CYA is still waiting for VDA to produce a formal agreement but VDA doesn't seem to be interested now that they have made another partnership with Vienna. VDA just wants fields in Fairfax county because nobody wants to drive to Howison park or James Long park. The Vienna partnership should be interesting since they have such limited space and the VDA uses half a field for each practice.

So that means Krieger's out? Interesting, and really strange that all of this is happening and nothing is posted on any of the clubs websites - not CYA, VDA, or ASA. I'm not questioning that its true. Just think its strange they wouldn't let people know.

As opposed to European soccer, where you can generally find a half-decent club in every neighborhood.

At the U13 level, which league do you expect to be stronger next year: EDP or CCL?

Thanks. Any sense of which teams will play in EDP's 1st Division South?

Just look at the most recent teams. Most likely will be same, plus or minus a few new ones:

For 05 boys next year,

On the CCL side, Loudoun & Arlington will have their B teams entered. LMVSC will be strong. Beach FC the same. MCLN should be OK. Stoddert will probably lose some of its best players to Bethesda and DC. The rest are pretty much 2nd tier teams at best anyway.

In EDP, Bethesda will but their B team in. SAC, Baltimore Celtic and Pipeline will all lose their best players to Baltimore Armour.

EDP will give you a more consistent level of competition week-to-week because the division seeding is team based, rather than club based. So if a club has a week team in that age group, they will get bumped down to a lower division.

Transparency is key to any organization to fully succeed. Why in the world would VDA keep this on the down low? VDA has not mentioned anything on CYA. I did find it interesting that Vienna quietly joined the league.....so what happens to all the CYA players that where part of VDA this past year? or the VDA players that where recently selected to VDA? do they continue, or go back to club soccer?

Oscar will be missed!

VDA is it's own separate academy. A player that was a CYA/PWSI/VSA player after trying out for VDA and joining VDA is no longer recognized as still a CYA/PWSI/VSA player. If the currently coaches want to keep the CYA players, the parents will have to choose to stay or go back to their club. Frankly I think these kinds of partnerships always need a DOM/sub relationship dynamic, even if it may not appear that way on website or on paper. CYA and PWSI are roughly equals except for Culina's(PWSI) soccer pedigree. VSA and Vienna I see as deferring to PWSI's direction. Overall I think it's best for CYA as a club since it allows them to retain the talent, if they can, in house. Their best players with true intentions of continuing their soccer would try out for VDA or Loudoun or McLean academy and it would be on their parents to figure out the practices.
