Corrupt IRGC thugs parking their dirty money in London, among other places.
Iran's Wealth is Parked on Billionaires' Row Several sprawling mansion plots along the thoroughfare more formally known as The Bishops Avenue make up a chunk of the extensive London property holdings funded by Iranian money that Western officials have linked to the country’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. They are nonetheless an illustration of how Iran has been able to move money internationally for years despite Western sanctions aimed at choking off the regime’s ability to do so. The Middle East war has heightened scrutiny on the global financial networks alleged to fund the Iranian regime’s military, domestic oppression and foreign proxies. It is a web that Western officials say stretches from the United Arab Emirates to Toronto, Hong Kong and Singapore. The U.S. has highlighted Iranian cash flows it says support arms purchases and bolster the ruling regime. Officials also cite outflows of personal fortunes belonging to connected Iranians, described as the spoils of classic kleptocracy. https://www.wsj.com/world/irans-wealth-is-parked-on-londons-billionaires-row-cb2022e4?st=rbS4cb&reflink=desktopwebshare_permalink |
Do they bump elbows with Bibi and Trump at the bank? Lol |
Wow, if you think that's bad, how about this? https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/03/13/donald-trumps-worst-deal A key investor in this deal...But the Mammadov family, in addition to its reputation for corruption, has a troubling connection that any proper risk assessment should have unearthed: for years, it has been financially entangled with an Iranian family tied to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, the ideologically driven military force. In 2008, the year that the tower was announced, Ziya Mammadov, in his role as Transportation Minister, awarded a series of multimillion-dollar contracts to Azarpassillo, an Iranian construction company. Keyumars Darvishi, its chairman, fought in the Iran-Iraq War. After the war, he became the head of Raman, an Iranian construction firm that is controlled by the Revolutionary Guard. The U.S. government has regularly accused the Guard of criminal activity, including drug trafficking, sponsoring terrorism abroad, and money laundering. |
Seems like the Israel press corps is working over time. So glad there is no corruption in the US or Israel. Did anyone tell Bibi and Trump about this? They will be green with jealousy. |
Rumor is the new ayatollah (the son) has a house in London next to the Israeli embassy. If so, I wonder if Iran and Israel are in this together to take down the A’s Americans and Arabs |
its very sad- many people on the ground in Iran (I am of Pakistani heritage and ppl move there for uni/business) said that the regime was extremely weakened right before these attacks and on the path to reform. This war ha sonly succeeded in strengthening the regime and making things worse for the pro reform movement. the shah supporters are in a different category bc they dream of the Neo-fuedal state they left behind where the elite had a hyper modern lifestyle funded by extreme exploitation of 90% of the country. They want Iran to be an emirate with a shah but the Irani ppl want democracy. different cultures value different things- the shah Iranians have become more like gulf Arabs in that they value money and wealth- more mainstream Iranian culture values education and trust that well-being will follow. of course there are internet blackouts etc but ppl in this area of the world are used to using vpns/satelite etc so the news from college kids stuck there is pretty accurate. |
He caused a huge mess then dumps it on Europe. What a loser! Victory? You’re high. |
| He keeps talking about "Regime change". The top people might have changed (ie, been killed), but the regime is the same. Who's going to tell him? |
|
Interesting and fun to watch him put his tail between his legs and slink away.
He made a colossal mistake and achieved nothing. Now we wait for the next president to reopen the strait for us. |
| Will Iran really focus on going after Trump, his family, and his properties? I knew it would have to be another country to take down Trump. But I didn’t think it would be Iran. |
I want to believe this will happen, but two things worry me. On the Iranian side, why do they keep taunting Trump in social media? It seems like they are trying to bait him into staying in the war. Maybe they have an ulterior motive to continue a low simmering war. On the Trump side, their recent talk about NATO, especially by Rubio, sounds like they are negotiating to ask for use of European bases during the war. This is more than just Trump's usual vindictive threats. Maybe they are setting up support for full scale bombing, not just missiles. |
I wish we had more of this perspective. I don’t understand how / why we don’t have more news stories on the human impact and focus instead on Iran as a state entity. There are people on the ground. Some of the previous posts highlight how terrible Iran is for putting children in security positions (sure). But it’s our bombs killing those children. We - our taxpayer dollars - are killing people. For what I just don’t understand. |
