EVERYTHING! Redshirting exacerbates relative age affect. Kids born in the youngest months of the year are 11% less likely to attend university than the oldest across western countries according to Gladwell in that clip from 16:40. That’s horrendous. |
Maybe we can make it illegal to have babies born in the latter half of the school year to avoid this fate. |
| No, year round schooling with rolling admission dates will mitigate it. Compare 4 year olds with 4 year olds and 6 year olds with 6 year olds. |
I do not think he said what you think he said. |
You were railing on about kids who were the oldest but not redshirted. So tell me, how are the non-redshirted fall born kids who are the oldest cheating again? You keep whining about how they don't deserve their accomplishments but they didn't redshirt. Also I hope you are lobbying passionately against any outside enrichment, moving to 'good" school districts, and standardized testing, because that has far more impact on inequity than redshirting. Finally, link the research showing that redshirting has any impact on equity whatsoever. You say there is extensive research. Prove it. I didn't redshirt. I just think you people are literally crazy. |
Honestly, I would give up. As someone said earlier, that PP lacks mental capacity. |
| Watch the video from the 16 minute mark. That’s exactly what he says. |
You lack capacity. Sorry to break it to you. You do not understand Gladwell at all. |
"If you look at how well kids do in school, based purely on their birthdates, whether they fall into the younger, oldest, or middle age cohort in their class, you see exactly the same patterns. In fact, there's a beautiful study done that tracked thousands and thousands of kids across the west and tracked them all the way through university level and found that kids born in the relatively youngest cohort of their age class were 11% less likely to go to college than kids who were in the relatively oldest cohort of their age class." But what does this have to do with redshirting? There will ALWAYS be kids who are older in a grade and those who are younger, even if redshirting is completely illegal. That's the way our education system is set up. Unless we make it legal to only have sex in a certain month so all kids in the country are born within a few weeks span, not sure what point you're trying to make. Or unless you want to radically restructure how school works. But again, what does that have to do with redshirting? |
| God, DCUM anti redshirt people are so dim. |
Right. My kid has a fall birthday. He was NOT redshirted. He HAD to start school at a just-turned-6 rather than a just-turned-5. He'll always be one of the older ones in the cohort because *gasp* his parents chose to have sex *checks notes* around Christmastime it has nothing to do with redshirting. Not sure what PP is trying to say.
|
| That's it, no more sex around the holidays, ya'll. It's the only logical solution. |
You can't figure out what the PP is saying because she is incoherent. |
| I don't get it. Poverty is a much bigger predictor- seems weird that DRARP (DCUM's Resident Anti-Redshirt Poster) is soooo obsessed with redshirting and the thing that's actually a big deal. |
| It’s actually kinda impressive she’s kept this thread going for so long. Hats off to ya, crazy lady. |
