I don't understand why clubs would publish rosters of kids in middle school. It makes sense for HS for recruiting, but MS seems to early.

Also given how nuts people on this site are I don't think I'd want my kid's name out there.
Well then you really wouldn't be comfortable with other clubs posted ES players on their rosters.

Based on what I’ve heard from reliable sources, the only time the competition committee comes into play is where an odd number of teams would be in a given division (which causes scheduling difficulties) or a team is way off in terms of what they request or there are an unusual number of teams in a given division. It’s not like there is a conspiracy to keep certain clubs out. If there are an odd number of teams, then the clubs that typically play in the top division usually are put there. But it’s not like anyone actually analyzes the prior season or tournament records like people are doing here.

That is true for the other four HOCO divisions but elite is different. It is a big deal for the top clubs.

I have heard that VLC teams are foreclosed from the Hoco Elite division in any age group where Crabs has a team, which I assume is all of them, because of two factors: (1) no program is allowed to place two programs in Elite, and (2) between Crabs and VLC, the powers that be will always take Crabs.
I don't know if this is correct, but at least the first factor does make some sense. If so, it ought to be disclose to families when they sign up for VLC.

VLC has not had younger or HOCO eligible teams for that long. HOCO is run by a public parks and rec so they would never have a policy like this. However there is a vote from other clubs so any exclusion would never be official. For the area that VLC is drawing from there are no other clubs in HOCO elite as many Madlax teams practice on the other side of the bridge where 5 miles = 50 min. Non covid.

I've heard something similar to this as well.

They can do what they want, but no, I don't think I'd want that. Maybe a first name at most. I don't see what it gets you. In that scenario I know my kid is on the team.

Names are now only listed on the team app. No reason to publish it.

VLC isn’t in the Elite division because they aren’t very good. They need to beat some of those teams and will move up. Their coaches complain to HoCo but it’s based solely on the strength of teams.

Ok but VLC beat HOCO elite teams by more than five goals
This summer

One VLC team a few years ago was accepted to play in elite after winning AAA. HOCO recinded offer a week later after it learned the team did not have any holdbacks.

The 2026 team has beaten within the last year Crabs, BLC, Looneys, NextLevel and other good teams so they can’t be all that bad.

True and now in HS when no one cares about HOCO league they have dominated teams that were in the elite division.

VLC has had its ups and downs. It is clearly on a resurgence right now. You can come in and be from another club and say they are trash but the reality is most of their teams are on the rise. Are they all elite, no, but clearly on the rise. The mission of VLC has always been the same. Teach solid lacrosse and compete at the highest level you can regardless of wins/losses at tournaments. That turns out the product they want. No ego, just solid teaching and solid lacrosse players. Hate all you want, but life is too short for that. This is a sport and should be fun. I'm sure you would have more fun posting your hate in the anti-mask and anti-vax forums online.

The comments here aren't that bad--esp. compared to other sites where it gets nasty and personal. Most of questions seem truly inquisitive, with a smattering of some club pride--and that's OK. Families with younger players tend to be more hyped; HS players' families are more chill, probably cause they've been through all this.
